I had to visit RS again at the weekend. One of the tweeters in a speaker had given up so I called them about a possible warranty claim as the speakers were just under two years old and had been supplied with a 6 year warranty. I anticipated being told it was wear and tear and as they weren't the dearest in the shop I was preparing to buy some replacements. My speakers had recently been superseded and although some RS branches had a few of the old ones left Milton Keynes did not, but the guy suggested I could drop mine in to RS and simply pay the difference in price for the new upgraded ones. Result. Two brand new speakers for £50.

Small gestures like that give you a warm feeling inside.
From an eco view point, shame they cant put new tweeters in, but from a customer service you absolutely can't fault that.

Tweeters are easy to replace, but could be they are no longer available.

What speakers was it for?

They were Q Accoustics 3020s, replaced by 3020is (which are very good). I agree about replacing the tweeter and to be honest I'd have been happy to do that if they'd suggested it but given what they offered I jumped at the opportunity. Plus all ther other speakers in the house are fine so I didn't have a need to repair them and put them in another room - which means one will now immediately break...

I bought a Samsung TV from RS which developed a fault at just over 5 years old.

It came with a 6 year warranty but, unknown to me at the time, I was supposed to have completed a registration form for the additional warranty to be activated.

I came clean with RS and they agreed to honour the warranty. Next day, a guy arrived to collect the TV. Two days later it was back after having a brand new panel fitted.

Customer service which was above and beyond, IMHO.

After buying another TV from them last week, I see they've now changed their procedures such that there's no longer any need to register the device for the 6 warranty to be effective.

As a company, I couldn't recommend them highly enough thumbup

Great work as always, and supporting the highstreet even if buying online, be using a brand with a bricks and mortar presence.

I'm in the market for a new tv after my current one died at just 2 yrs old....no extended warranty unfortunately.
So,as RS give a 6yr warranty I'm planning on buying from them this time.
Can anyone recommend a 50" they stock ?
I was hoping to spend under £500 but may push the boat out for something special.
Must be good on motion and have a screen that's not overly reflective

If the 43 version is anything to go by, this should be pretty good https://www.richersounds.com/samsung-qe50q60t.html

Ordered a new TV at 8pm on Tuesday July 21st from RS - it arrived on the Thursday (standard delivery - I was in no rush) thumbup

(Philips 55PUS7805 - if you want to know - the other half really wanted Ambilight to the point of I was only allowed to buy a TV with ambilight). I have been impressed so far (plays nicely with my Marantz NR1509).

Been about 5 years since i purchased a Cambridge audio minx air 100 wireless speaker in their Edinburgh branch. Only popped in to idly look at small wireless speakers and came out with the minx ! Think it was nearly £300 at the time.

Great service and no pressure at all to buy. If I remember correctly we went away and thought about it and came back and purchased lol

Another satisfied customer here.

Used them to source the components for my home cinema - as has been said, textbook customer service, and prices seemed very reasonable too.

I really like ambilight, you can buy an addon from Amazon and probably elsewhere too, that retro fits onto any tv to give a similar effect. It's about 20 quid

Further praise for RS. Bought a Samsung 50” TV over 2 years ago and never signed up to the RS 6 year extended warranty. When I called expecting to pay for a repair the agent retrospectively signed me up to the 6 year warranty and a man came out to the house and replaced the main board on the TV which fixed the issue.

I wouldn’t but electronics anywhere else.

Just bear in mind the EU ruling that electronic good should last 6 years, and so a warranty of sorts applies. RS, John Lewis, Apple etc are all aware but yes, it’s nice when it all happens without a fight.

Do you know anyone who's successfully claimed under the Consumer Rights Act for an out of warranty repair ?
Your claim is against the retailer. There's no guarantee the retailer will still be in business tomorrow nevermind 6 years given the state of the economy

I know people who haven’t had to ‘claim’, they’ve just mentioned it if necessary.
And your statement about if someone were to buy now isn’t valid for this particular subject. The item was bought years ago, and RS are still here.

Well clearly I'm talking about in the future there.
As for just mentioning it,I just mentioned it to Argos this week and they certainly didn't offer a repair, they told me the procedure I'd have to go through. If they deem it wear and tear you've got no chance

Well, not many guarantees cover wear and tear, do they?
