Been with sky the 18 months and next few bills look like this

Sports was just acceptable at £11/month, as I just watch F1, but feck off am I paying £30! The rest will probably stay once I "play the game".

I felt exactly the same re sport! Managed to get the whole thing down to £35 but no Movies (does anyone watch Sky Movies?!)

We do use it every so often, but it's probably cheaper to rent from Amazon or somewhere when we want to watch a film.

OH wants to ditch it all together, but nothing compares to the recording function (although that also annoys me!) and the planner.

The Freesat Recordable box has pause/rewind, series link recording (4 channels) and remote record.

I'm very tempted to ditch Sky Q when my contract ends.

The charging separately for HD, and even then on different channels irrationally perhaps, annoys me.

I pay 84 a month I think. Which is c. 1000 a year. Which is 20000 over 20 years. Seems a lot when one thinks about it.

Then again, a lot of things can be framed that way. The FIRE mindset. Live on noodles, do nothing, retire early. laugh

I'm not sure Freesat has channel 4 in HD on it. It's about the only terrestrial channel we watch now.

Normally i suck at getting a deal but looks like I’ve stumbled onto a good’un.

Everything apart from kids and movies.
UHD 1tb box
Multiroom
Netflix

£45 a month with a promise of full fibre broadband when available ( should be the next week or so) for £18 extra.

(Googles...) 4HD is transmitted by the Astra satellite but not included in the Freesat EPG. You can receive it by tuning the box manually but can't record or pause, so not ideal.
Maybe one day they'll sort out the disagreement over fees.

I've just cancelled Sky as they can't get a better deal then £91 a month. I want multiscreen, broadband and the full package but they couldn't match the £80 they've done in the past so I better find some options with other providers

Well another month has rolled onto the billing online, and seems it's even more from Dec! Bugger

How long do people have to wait before they call back and offer a better deal? Do they even?
I cancelled yesterday. Got the usual waffle and lots of figures thrown at me but no real reduction offered (Sports, Movies, BT sports, HD).

40 minutes to Sky and this is what they can do. She openly admitted that if you cancel chances are they'll text to try and retain me. Not holding my breath but also not paying £50 for TV! My Jan bill has gone up to £95. Well over 3 times what I was originally paying. How is it allowed?!

Sports becomes just F1 to save a fiver over the full sports package, I don't watch anything else.

It’s allowed because it’s a private company who can charge what they want for their service?

rolleyes

Yes I get that, have you ever had a company charge you 3 times as much as last year? People get pissed at car insurance renewals being a tiny bit more than the previous year...

My car insurance went up by more than 50% on renewal. Needless to say I moved.

Sky know they have a pretty unique offering and people will and do pay for it.

Bit of an oxymoron don’t you think?

I also think insurance companies shouldn’t be allowed to do it!

Hardly an "idiot tax" rolleyes when 30% of the population can't access Virgin services and there's no other viable alternative if you want premium TV.

Just cancelled mine after 9 years, was paying 72 per month for TV phone and broadband and about to go up to more than 80 and that was without HD, sports or movies and with an old and unresponsive box... felt like I was ripped off to my face in the end. Going to give BT a try, same price includes BT sports, HD, Now TV for basically the same Sky package and up to date technology.
