Not missed it at all TBH

Virgin BB (250mbps £24)
Freeview
Free Netflix/Disney+ from family but rarely watched
Prime
Free stuff itvX/BbcIplayer/Discovery+
All we lost was record function.
Saved the energy of SkyQ & the other boxes.
Added benefit, now it’s 100% reliable.
No more resetting the POS on a depressingly regular basis with Q

Do you actually need it? We didn’t
We binned Virgin Media around 6mths ago, haven't missed it at all. When we broke it all down we were essentially paying for the ability to record, everything else is on Freeview/Smart TV apps, we just pay £22/mth for Broadband now (plus the obligatory streaming services, albeit shared with family members).

Are in contract customers allowed to cancel everything without any early termination charges if sky have put the prices up mid contract again?!

I've had the price increase email and it mentions cost of living crisis etc, and then tells me my bill is going up more than 10% ffs, so I'm tempted to bin the whole lot.

Can't find online chat on their website and don't want to be stuck on a call forever trying to find out...

Just binned off sky so now looking for a free view or freeway box that records.

Seem bloody expensive but it is a one off I suppose.

I was speaking to them to cancel this evening after getting the notification of a £3 rise on the £40 I’m already paying for a very basic package (Signature and HD). They managed to sign me up for a new 18 month contract at £28 a month (£25 for the first two months).

Along with everyone my package is going up a little.

I’ve had sky q for 4 years and have gone from paying a frankly reasonable £21 pm at the start to now £57 with the small increase

I get:

  • Sky HD
  • Sky entertainment
  • Sky multi screen
  • Sky Ultimate on Demand
We get broadband via BT for £61

I see those Sky sales teams in the shopping malls and wonder if I’d be better off going to them and seeing if they’d better my deal

From my experience over the past couple of days, if you have Sky but are out of contract with them then just ring up and go through to cancellations via the menus (or rather the 'customer retention team' in reality). You eventually speak to a nice person who will offer you a good deal to stay and take out a new contract as happened to me last night.

Would you mind sharing your deal so I can benchmark? smile

Must admit I was completely shocked to read about how much some folk are paying for Sky services, seems very easy for it to get out of hand.

It’s completely mad. It’s the original club card scam, but they’ve got away with it for years. They need investigating and stopping. Think of all the benefits they are cashing in on

I’m sure rsbmw wont have paid £155, but how they get away with trying to charge that when really they’d charge £85 is highway robbery. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!

(No offence intended to the lovely people who work for them, helping in this thread. I’m sure they don’t process the prices!)

Sky have text me “it’s not too late to change your mind” etc, but I’m to call them. No offer in a message or email. I suppose this goes to the next step of account term department.

Might call in a bit. If it’s cheap cheap I’ll stay

Forgive me, but I don't know how this works - can you sort deals out for people who message you?

I work for Sky, as do a few others on this thread. We can generate Friends and Family offers depending on what you need.

Thanks for the mails guys. Thought I’d point out the limitations of the influence i may or may not have.

As i work in the operational side of the business the offers i have are limited to New Customers or discounts based on existing packages. I can’t adjust or modify package details or prices in contract or as part of a renewal.

I’m not sure what the other Sky folk on this thread are capable of though.

Just cancelled mine within contract and no extra charges so either ive been lucky or they can’t stop you.

No way i can justify £115 per month. Going to look into the ways to get f1 tvpro and such like as they take the mick too much.
