Hi All,

Just a quick question.

Can blue-ray players play CDs and if so is the sound quality acceptable?

Yes and depends on your idea of 'acceptable'.

Some of the quality oppo models use great on-board DACS rivalling the sound of top end CD players.
You could always output a digital stream to an off-board DAC if sound quality is paramount.

The Panasonic will do fine just check it has an analogue stereo output.

Being realistic the Panasonic will be OK. The Pioneer is better. The Pioneer will also play SACD's which the Japanese love. They can be obtained on import. At that Price level the Pioneer and Sony Players would be best. Especially the UHP-H1 and the 4K UBP-X800. These are true Multi disc players with some Audio components tweaked. The Cheaper UHP player has Standard audio outputs whereas the UBP is more of a Transport.

Those with USB ports will also play music off USB sticks.
