We were paying £70 just for sky tv and it came with everything but sports but included the hd pack I told them 2yrs ago my circumstances had changed and I wished to cancel and they knocked it down to £55 then last year it came up for renewal and told them my circumstances had changed and I wished to cancel and they knocked it down to £42 a month for 18 month, guess what's going to happen when this contract expires I'm aiming for less than £42

This is the whole reason I cancelled - I know they can offer better deals than they did - my ten years counted for nothing so I've binned it completely. Honestly not missing it either. We watch less telly and still enjoy everything we do watch. The only ballaches at the mo are F1 via C4 and their utterly dire commentary team, and that Big Bang Theory isn't available on the Firestick version of All4. Hardly life-ending stuff.

And here lies the problem - if they can offer those prices to new customers, why do they treat existing (now ex-) customers so indifferently???

Its friends and family discounts - I imagine many corporations offer such benefits to their employees

Hmmm. If I was a customer can my wife sign up as a new customer at the same address with the same surname?

However I suspect that the equipment install charges would push those prices higher over the contract term than I can get by going to sky direct and keeping my existing kit.

She can sign up as a new customer if you've fully cancelled your TV

As for existing kit, depends on if you want Sky Q or not - that bit is up to you obviously

Right now sky Q is the only reason I'm considering staying. Everything else is available elsewhere, the only thing Sky do best is the ease of use of their equipment.

My Humax FVP-5000 turned up last week and I think it’s actually better then the Q box and yes it does allow wireless sending to another tv in the house. Also allows remote record from the app. Series link and catch up. In fact if it can’t find a show on iPlayer it will also search YouTube automatically!

This is true. The remote-control delay on both our Roku stick and the YouView box are appalling - Roku is truly 3-5s delay, while YouView is 'will it / won't it'.
