Before purchasing my OLED, I had a good look round John Lewis. Thankfully I liked using the LG WebOS as it was an LG TV I ended up with.

Apple TV. Done.
When they do 4k, then I will look at it again but it did look easy.
NVIDIA SHIELD, no need for anything else.
Fast Android TV interface
4K + HDR support on both Netflix and Amazon
Dobly and DTS:X support.

It had crossed my mind but like the way apple do their stuff. I wanted to see what the have to offer and rumblings there may be something end this year? See how it integrates then either or. Long term support for Nvidea is a concern.

Warning for Samsung...

They are really suck at post sale use.

Mine is 2 years old. It doesn't do all YouTube formats a anymore. Twitter and Skype are no longer supported. Certain weblayouts make the browser crash. Sadly, this includes the 2 websites i want to use most - if live stream and live timing are on the same web page it can't deal with it at all.

Pretty poor for a 2 year old telly.
Just came here to reiterate this.

I have a 32" 2012 6 series Samsung in the bedroom, this was a mid range TV that cost nearly £700 back then. The Youtube app no longer works and the rest of the 'smart' interface is a wasteland of empty icons from discontinued apps.

We currently have a 4k 2015 Samsung in the living room and I have zero confidence that half the apps will still be working in a year or two.

I was concerned about this, I am just about to embark on the smart TV voyage so have started to do a little research. My dad has just bought a Sony, what a total pain in the rear that was to connect to the internet and interface is not great. Anyhow I was concerned that apps would not be supported after time, or some may not be supported by all brands from the outset.

A friend of mine is convinced that they are all a con. I think i will be looking at LG or Samsung but it will all depend on the interface and how it connects to the internet (my dads new Sony had no option in the menu to scan for wireless networks even thought the instruction manual stated "click on scan for wireless networks" )

Will follow this thread with interest.

Well, even youtube is patchy on mine now. Will no longer show IMSA streams, because IMSA upload things in a newer format.

If SRO (blancpain et all) update to the new format, my "smart" TV loses it's last smart feature. =(

fk you Samsung, you're st.

Think it goes by the version number on the app.

Is this an issue because of the manufacturer or the firm supplying the stream? e.g. the stream providers says this will only work on so and so chip version and your TV is old, so no longer supported. If the stream provider still supported the older hardware, how much of an issue would that be?

Old Samsung is very good, newest one (post Tizen?) is not as good, I regularly have to use an 2014 BluRay player for things my 4k player doesn't support or that just don't work.

LG is very good, except I get audio sync issues/frame stuttering off the inbuilt apps (some YouTube and all BBC iPlayer especially).

To be fair I've had my Sony X93 for about 6 months now, and apart from one small issue where the TV Guide kept crashing, I've found the Smart interface fairly painless, if not the most attractive system I've used. Where it's really good is for apps as they all come from Google Play, certainly the Plex app is the best I've used on any platform to this point, and it also means Kodi can be installed directly on the TV if you like that sort of thing. The built in Netflix and Amazon apps supported 4K HDR right off the bat. Haven't tried the TV Guide as we don't have a working aerial so just use Sky.

The Voice Search is pretty good too, works just as well as on my Android phone (also a Sony). Plus the built in Chromecast is fantastic, making it dead easy to send content to it.

Samsung have just released the Steam Link app for their TV's so you can stream games from your PC to your TV.

2016 and 2017 sets only.

We have Samsung, Android TV box, Amazon TV and Apple TV.

They all have their own features which are nice but would place them in preference in the order I've written them.

Agree - Samsung interface by far the best. Can access normal TV, Now TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix and other apps from one place, and no messing around with Fire sticks/Apple TV etc. The current interface is very slick and minimal.

Another warning for Samsung.

They'll release TVs without any of the BBC/ITV/C4/C5 catchup services. When buying new you can expect not to get them all for most of the first year.

I don't rate Samsung as any better or worse than Sony. Neither is great. Not tried LG recently but heard good things.
