looking to hear from anyone that uses the Yamaha music cast stuff. I am moving into a new house and not really sure what type of audio system i am needing.

I like the idea of multi room audio but i do not like the look of the Sonos, it seems very locked down with no bluetooth and not being able to stream from a PC or anything outside of the App.

Has anyone used the Yamaha sound bars? how do they compare to an Amp and good speakers?

It is between a sound bar for the living room and one of the smaller speakers for the kitchen/bedroom or a yamaha AV receiver with 2 good quality speakers for the living room.

any advice would be great.

Sonos does support Spotify direct for what its worth.

You can download the app and use it in Demo mode. I personally think it has the edge over Sonos.

Soundbar wise go with a 5.1 setup with a Yamaha Amp. Separate speakers and small standalone Yamaha speakers in the other zones.

Drop me or VEX a PM if you want some pricing. We both offer a PH discount on this kit.

I bought a pair of Yamaha NX-N500 powered music cast speakers recently, they sound very nice - I've been impressed by the performance especially considering their size.

Took a few attempts to get them to initially connect to my network, but after that first time the connection has been very reliable. I don't have any other music cast gear so I can't comment on the multi-room functionality etc.

Yes - I have:

1 x WXC-50 feeding into the amplifier in the TV room
7 x WX-030 around the house in bedroom (paired), kitchen (paired), lounge (paired) and study (single)

Am considering using a soundbar in the lounge instead of the paired WX030 and shuffling those somewhere, not sure where yet!

Works well, really like the app control, particularly via the widgets on my phone.

Issues:
Occasionally loses signal (particularly those where a microwave is in the way which is probably fair) - ability to use a wired connection is useful
Regular updates are a bit of a pain - you have to in-pair the speakers, then update individually, then re-pair

Sound quality is really good (or at least good enough for my ears) - I mainly use internet radio or music on a USB stick connected to my router so can't comment on how well the Spotify connection etc works. Am happy with mine.

Only got the one WX-030 at the moment but will probably add to the system at a later stage. Pretty good so far.

You can stream from a PC as well, if you install a bit of shareware.

I've got a RX-A1070 in the living room, that happens to have MusicCast ... used it once to try it out; I'm quite happy with my Sonos setup (apart from the expense!).

thanks for the feedback.

i think i have narrowed it down to a WXA-50 in the living room with a set of good quality speakers. means i have have the TV and whatever play through that and a WX030 in the kitchen for now.

does anyone know if i want to ad WX010 speakers to the rear of the living room, is it possible to make them work as a surround sound setup . rear right / rear left ect, or will it just be stereo left and right?

I've got the Yamaha RN-602 which works great with the MusicCast features. It has Spotify connect, TIDAL, USB, Server access, Bluetooth and just about every other source you can think of. It has the benefit of being able to use whatever Hi-Fi components you want as it's just an amp/receiver. The app is OK. Could be better and more intuitive but works well enough. I like that you can make MusicCast playlists and add tracks from TIDAL, USB, server, etc. It doesn't care that you're switching sources for each track. I've not tried the Sonos solution but my mate has it and I'm not that impressed with the sound form the speakers or the design of them.

I'm looking into getting a Yamaha soundbar for the lounge with MusicCast too. I've not tried it but I also think I can cast to my little Bose soundlink mini as it has Bluetooth ability.

Yeah I have it in 2 rooms and the lounge.

I really rate it. Had no issues, and it connects together relatively well.

For your living room get a Yamaha Reciever with MusicCast and get some nice speakers and soundbar.

It’s one of the reasons I like Yamaha as they have more to offer then Sonos. Plus Sonos will not leave the app alone. It’s at its worst right now.

100% Agree,

Got a couple of commercial projects coming up and will be using Yamaha for those.
