My Toshiba 40XF355D has given trusty service for the past 9 or 10 years but it's really time for an upgrade so it's another "Which TV" thread.

Looking to spend around £700-800 ideally and it needs to come from Amazon (I have a lot of vouchers which will fund part of the purchase).

TV is used for general TV duties, F1 and some films via Sky+HD at the moment, will be moving to Sky Q at some stage soonish. It'll be rigged up to a Sony Amp/Surround so speaker performance is not a concern.

Looking for something around 50" and happy to go slightly higher in the budget if it makes sense (especially as it may come back to my budget during Black Friday).

Samsung UE49MU6470 or UE55KU6400 seems to get suggested a lot but any opinions on these or similar sets would be much appreciated.

eta - I also see Hisense mentioned a lot but I've not heard of this make before?

Thanks

I'm in the same situation, looking to replace a 40" Sony W series from 2009.

Worth having a look at this https://www.whathifi.com/sony/kd-49xe9005/review

A little over your budget (and mine), but with Black Friday and Christmas around the corner would think it will come down a little. Amazon did some great deals on Sony TVs last year from memory.

Pretty sure this is the one I'll be going with.

Looks a great set but I can't imagine they will knock 30% off to bring it within budget, will they?

Did you make a decision on this in the end?

The 49XE9005 is down to £999 today, another great and slightly more affordable option is the Samsung MU7000 - can get the 49" of that for £749.

I'm struggling to decide between the two.

I went for the MU7000 for £749 once I got the alert from Camelcamelcamel. Should be here mid-next week.

Have either of you guys seen the MU6400 and compared with the 7000?

I need a 55 inch and, at £629, the 6400 seems a great deal!

In a side by side demo at John Lewis, the 7000 seemed to have slightly better contrast (inc deeper blacks), but that could be down to how each was set up. In the real world I'm sure either would give a massive improvement over my 10 year old toshiba LCD, so I probably just convinced myself that bigger (model number) = better when I could have saved myself a few quid on the cheaper set.

Cheers! I think I'm going to go 6400 for now, especially as I have no HDR content and possibly go OLED in the next house in a year or two.
