Watched loads of footy on a 55 & a 65 OLED, and it looks brilliant.

The 65C7 is currently $2100 including tax and shipping in the US. I am waiting though as the cheapest time to buy is the week running up to the Super bowl. That is in a couple of weeks. The E7 can be had for $400 more but I can’t see the advantage as I will be running this through an amp.

ok so what's the current recommendation around 65" OLED TV? certainly in favour of LG - but any new 2018 models etc?

The 2018 LG models have been announced, you can look for yourself but I don't see anything major that would persuade me to get a 2018 over a 2017. I believe they have tweaked the ABL and pixel structure a bit but the B7 is currently about £1,500 and the B8 will probably be £2,500 when it's released.

Other brands do sell OLED's, and most have something to recommend them (sound on the Sony, ambilight and processing on the Philips, accuracy on the Panasonic etc) but if you just want a 'basic' TV (and it's still an OLED, so it's still great) the LG is/are the best value.

The Panasonic FZ Series look to be the New bench marks for Picture Quality and the FZ950 55" and 65" sets will get a sound bar stand. Price wise I would not expect them to be be below £2k which could be a sticking point.

Missed the boat on the Black Friday deals for the LG B7, got a B6 in the living room which we love and I want to get one for my games room now. I see the price has now gone back up to £1800 at most places, with the odd 'amazing' saving coming in at £1600, which is still quite a way off the £1400 it was back in November.

Do we think it'll get discounted heavily again prior to the inevitable B8 coming out in the next month or so? I can remember scrambling to buy the B6 at around this time last year only to find that it got discounted even further after I'd got clearance from the wife at the "best price we'll see".

I heard general consumption of home electricals is soft at the moment, but future deals on a specific product will depend on how much stock is in the retailers and LG's warehouse when they move to the new line.

And it's not like you can use current pricing as any guide... OFT guidelines limit the number of weeks a retailer can claim a 'save' message, and save messages are the most compelling closure mechanic. If retailers are preparing for future discounts, they will want to price establish at a higher price now to enable them to claim a 'save' later.

So, pretty much unanswerable based on anything other than guess work...

If you are price sensitive, is your current games room setup ok? As if it is, you may want to hold on for now, as in 2019 or so, HDMI 2.1 will bring wth it VRR. https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2017/11/23/w...

But then again no guarantees, as you never know with new tech and something else may appear.

Current setup is fine and it's only the PC that would be outputting at 4K really, it's more for the increase in size than anything. Got a 42" Sony LCD that's only about 4 years old in there, which is more than good enough, just fancy that extra bit of immersion that a bigger panel would offer. Have done the VR thing as obviously that's the ultimate for immersion, but it's not really suitable at the moment so I'll pick that back up again in a few years.

Have had a look through the article, so may well hold fire until the Black Friday deals come out this year. Cheers.

Edit: Or more likely wait until next year, as you say, as it looks unlikely anyone will be taking full advantage of HDMI 2.1 this year.
