It will be a much superior desk to the Technics so hopefully you will get a better sound. Even the SL1200 wasn't a match sound quality wise for the Budget Turntables of the time. They were great DJ decks being able to be transported and having the ability to slip the records.

I have to disagree with you on this one. The SL1200 is a quality deck with a good sound (when matched with a decent cart, of course) Betters the lower end Regas IMHO. Actually, my old RP855 bettered those. The stability of the technics surpassed many decks (DD). Not a romantic sound though...

But surely the OP wasn’t referring to having a 1200?!

Hence I said that "Even the 1200". Still as it was brought up at the time it was possible to make them sound really good. I believe it required a better arm as well as the cartridge as the Standard "head" for the cartridge was removable. Then it comes down to preference. Users of DD turntables find a solid sound with detail masked a bit, whereas the Belt drives pull more detail and staging. It's a preference thing.

the Lenco is pretty cheap and nasty and you can do much better for your money. Personally, I'd go with an entry level Rega or Pro-Ject turntable - they'll sound much better.
I've not handled or listened to the Lenco……..have you?

I've seen 4 different reviews for it though and each one was very complementary about the build quality and Hi-Fi World concluded the sound quality was excellent overall...….not just for an entry level product.

I couldn't find the HiFi World Review but this one came to a similar conclusion even when using the supplied entry level Audio Technica cartridge. https://theaudiophileman.com/lenco/

Nobody should buy hifi gear without listening for themselves but reviews do have their place in helping form a shortlist of candidates which are worth auditioning.

If you've heard one and used one yourself then your opinion differs to the professionals. That is absolutely fine of course but it would be foolish to dismiss the Lenco L-3808 as cheap and nasty if you've not had first hand experience of the product.

Well, update time!

I opened a complaint with Paypal after receiving no response from the seller then, Voila, I get an email saying it will be with you tomorrow - which it was!

I'm no hi fi buff but I have to say it sounds brilliant for £115. It's very heavy - the finish is a bit budget but for the price but it does what I want it to do so I am happy. The platter seems very well made.

It certainly sounds better than my old 1980's Technics and the direct drive means no slack/worn belts to worry about.

..I'm no expert but I'm sure it has a pre amp which probably accounts for its heft

How do you know I’m not one of “the professionals” too? wink
