Fairly modest compared to many here but I liked the sound of the Missions so I bought two pairs, and two LK100s to drive them.

I always wanted a Karik too - for almost exactly 30 years - and they're quite reasonably-priced when they crop-up now but the Sonos is my main source. I have started to buy CDs when I find them at throw-away prices. I have about a thousand now. I never collected vinyl and I think it's too late to bother, but I started with a half-decent CD collection, so it's probably worth persisting with that now.

I tested my hearing recently and discovered I can only hear up to about 12KHz, so anything better would be lost on me now. I look for sound that fills the room but without competing with people talking. I used to have a pair of big JBLs but their tweeters were so bright that you couldn't talk over them, and I found myself always turning them down when people were around. The Linns/Missions are the opposite - you can have them almost indecently loud and still talk quite comfortably.
Pleased to hear your system is sounding good...........you may be aware of this already but if not, the bass mid drivers used in your Mission speakers become very brittle / fragile as they get older. It's not the age per se, the degradation is as a consequence of the cone, over time, being exposed to UV light. The polypropylene used to make the cone is not UV stable in it's raw state and it degrades and becomes brittle / friable.......black / dark versions of driver cones which the same base polyprop material do not suffer from the same problem. This is because the darker versions invariably use carbon as the pigment; the carbon gives a high degree of protection from the damage caused by the UV.

If you've arrived at a sound that really works for you, the speakers will last longer, and continue to sound the same thumbup if you can limit the amount of direct sunlight that reaches the cones. The degradation still happens, albeit at a reduced rate, when the speakers grilles are used.

Thanks - I've heard that mentioned before but these ones seem OK. I had another pair since new, so just about 30 years and the bass cones were OK too. The other problem with these is the ferro-fluid in the tweeters drying out. When I can be bothered, I'll clean the drivers out and re-oil them. You can buy the fluid on-line. It's supposed to help cool the coils I believe. Seems a bit like snake oil to me however it's not expensive and I always like messing with things so I might as well have a go.

PP cones are extremely flexible with good damping when new.........their properties change over time with the UV light. Older ones can very fragile indeed but look fine until they get a knock or someone gives them a prod.

Take care with them if you really enjoy their sound, particularly if you're intending to do some work on the tweeters, because this is what can happen. They may look fine but they are likely to be fragile.

Oh no - that's a shame.

I've seen the bass drivers crop-up on eBay from time to time, so they're definitely available. Not so the tweeters though. Once they're gone, it's probably time to move onto something more modern (or more UV stable).

Beautiful deck.

I always wanted the in dash multi changer but I never had enough money and I heard it was hopelessly unreliable.

I still look at in car audio. It's so cheap now but I wonder how good it is?
Both that and the car are the 'ones which got away'

Sold the utterly immaculate 2002 172 Cup with 49K for £3500. Check out their values now banghead
I sympathise... I sold my 55k black gold 182 with both cup packs for 3250. I saw it 3 months later lowered far too much with the wheels painted purple. The. A few months later it was no longer taxed nor MOTd so obviously dead

Amazing centre speaker why not match it up with some 803 or 804d’s?
To be honest, after lots of auditioning of many makes including Sonus Faber, Kef, B&W and 3 or 4 others as soon as the Spendors were fired up I was sold. They are very plain looking but to my ears give just the sound I was looking for. The b&w came around a month later after deciding to upgrade the Ruark Dialogue centre. It's a superb bit of kit, visually matches the Rel T5 (piano black) and is only used for movies (as is the T5). More importantly, Mrs Sticky approves so happy days!

....oh and midnight cowboy, just FAB!

Gotta love some hi-fi 'woo' - post on PFM earlier about how dumping CDs out of the 'listening room' into the hallway has removed a 'haze' and 'tightened up imaging'.... rofl

Absolutely - hilarious.

As if the idea of moving hundreds of LPs and CDs from a listening room could have ANY effect on sound quality. After all, it's not as if it would make it bigger and alter its fundamental acoustic behaviour is it?! And even if it did, that wouldn't have any effect at all on the interaction of the speakers with the room!

Oh, hang on...

We'll the CD you are playing might suffer from stage fright in front of so many of its peers tightening up the sound and putting emphasis on vocals.....

I wouldn't be wrapping a mains cable around the phono cables from the deck.

It's not mains, it's 24v from the PSU.
Probably needs moved anyway.

Those Dynaudio C2 Signatures are making me drool.

My Audience 62's (pic page 7 of thread) are lovely and I have had them a while, with no real desire to sell.
Always wondered what their more recent kit was like though.

I heard a pair of the new Confidence 30s and was not impressed, i did not like the current Contour series when i heard them either.
I think it is a company that has lost it's way a little since Wilfried left (like a lot of companies that are essentially one person's baby), they will no doubt get it back soon.

Keep your Audience 62s (always loved them ) if you can, you'll have to spend a lot of cash to get something better.

Thanks for the honest reply.

I had a feling that was the case.

Bought the 62's from new, as I wanted the dark red wood finish. They work so well for me with my taste in music and sound. They are involving and never tiresome - but they have a bass kick too. Good at low volumes too. Your right, I would have difficulty replacing them. If I had to spend a fair bit more I would no doubt then consider upgrading everything else again - been there done that!

Always good to keep an open mind on Dynaudio I suppose, audio companies like football teams, curry houses and nightclubs go through rubbish phases.

The bulk of my listening/media is done whilst I sit editing photos and stuff so naturally the good stuff is at my workstation. The living room just has 65" OLED, surround sound and sub, nothing too noteworthy but perfectly adequate.

Anyway here's my workstation....

USB DAC/Amp: NAD D 3045
Speakers: Kef Q300 but planning an upgrade maybe Xmas to the LS50 Meta
Headphones: Sennheiser HD650 with a custom Wardmod cable
IEMs: Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+

I really like the speakers, they kick out such a strong bassline that I have never even thought about adding a sub or anything. Musically they are immense but just as capable in games and other cinematic stuff.

That neon sign is mega! Does it make any noise? I have very sensitive hearing and can hear the electrical whine of power adapters and LED bulbs when they are set to a low brightness. I would get one of those neons but any electrical whine would get to my noggin!

I have had these since they came out, originally the D 3020, then upgraded to the D 7050 and now have the D 3045 which is more powerful, few better features to save the VFD display life etc and has the better remote which I use a lot. It costs half as much as the D 7050 but sounds much better with tighter richer bass and overall volume. The headphone amps on all of these are really good, fully dedicated headphone amps easily capable of driving 600ohm cans.

Used to have Rotel and NAD analogue amps before these and ever since going solid state have never looked back. Such a clean sound but classically NAD with zero noise floor thanks to being solid state.

The paper specs for speaker output are very conservative, these will all drive powerful speakers without breaking a sweat. I learned early on that it's the quality of the circuitry that matters most, but having said that the 3045 can sustain 200 watts per channel when needed too.

Edit*
The other cool feature of the 3045 is bluetooth transmit for wired connected input sources. My PC does not have bluetooth, so any wired device connected to the 3045 can be heard on my wireless IEMs.

Added a qutest to my Naim 300 dr and sn2 , sounds v good more energetic and suiting the 300s pace and timing than the Naim dac v1 it replaced funnily enough

Highly recommended, use a mojo for personal listening which also really like the sound of but man it’s a pain to use it should have at least usb c IMO and Bluetooth aptx as an option would be welcome for times you don’t want to have all the bulky cables
