The NAP300 DR is a very enjoyable power amp have a listen smile
I have non dr version of the 300 - and collecting second one today with a view towards going active. Just need some more speaker cable and a snaxo then.

The 300 was a huge jump up from an olive 250, so am hoping that active will provide a similar advance. Have recently heard active 2x250dr into SL2s but it didn’t sound as good (to my ears) as my 300 into SBLs, though there might have been a setup and / or room issue. Or I just may not like the 250drs. Or the SL2s. It’s very difficult to check out all the possible variations...

Mine is:

Bang and Olufsen Beosound 9000 with Beolab 8000 speakers

Yamaha AS3000 amplifier, CDS3000 cd player with Soavo-1 speakers

Beolab 6000 speakers (not currently connected to anything and will be selling)

Monitor Audio Silver RX6 speakers (in white) - also not connected to anything. I bought them as they are white and not thinking I could get a hold of any Soavo-1s for a decent price.

Yesterday evening I saw a set for a bargain and grabbed them. Which resulted in me then going out this evening and getting the yamaha amplifier and CD player. Where's that thread about frivolous purchases.....

It's very early days (only two hours or so) since I had it all hooked up. Sounds good but nothing near what I expected for the not inconsiderable amount of money it cost. I am hoping it may take a while to break in but at the moment it sounds very 'digital'. They are crystal clear but there is something missing that I can't quite put my finger on.

I am pulling different CDs out and listening to them. My comment about how clear they are has just been shown with Taylor Swift and 'Blank Space'. She says 'long list of ex lovers' as clear as if she was crouched under the dining room table (where rhe sound stage is at present) rather than the debatable Starbucks lovers that can be 'heard' elsewhere.

Excuse me as I have now got to get rid of Ms Swift from under the furniture

I was hoping to get the main power amps back before posting pics, as it all ties together a bit better with them in place, but they're still being tweaked, so here are some with the back-up power amps:

SME 20/2A Turntable / Sumiko Pearwood Celebration with Cartridgeman Recordmat & Isolator and Stillpoints record weight.

Woo Audio WA5 Headphone Amp & PSU

Emission Labs Mesh-plate 300B

Wadia 971 Transport

Wadia 931 Digital Controller

Wadia 922 Monoblock DACs

(Lop-sided) Musical Fidelity KWP Pre-amp and PSU

PS Audio Power Plant showing flattened incoming sine wave

Power Plant showing corrected sine wave

Power Plant showing correction input

System

(spare) Khozmo stepped-attenuator from pre-amp with Vishay ZFoil series resistors & Takman REX shunt resistors

Ebay bargain system here, whole thing under £300. I like the sound, particularly with the acoustic guitar type music I tend to listen to.

Goldring Lenco GL78 (completely original, needs a service / mods and a new stylus)
Quantum electronics IA 150 (recently re-capped)
Ruark Prelude II
With a cheeky chromecast audio hidden away.

I like restoring hifi kit from the '60's and '70's, here's what I have running in the spare room/workshop at the moment:

Raspberry pi running volumio with a HiFiberry DAC on my home network as an HD source.
About 4TB flac files, mostly 60's/70's/80's live stuff.
Trio KA-2000A amp from about 1972
B&W DM601S2 speakers.
Arcam T61 FM tuner on a loft dipole with amp.
Revox A77 4-track reel to reel 1972.
Akai 4000DS 4-track reel to reel 1974.
Roberts stream 93i internet radio.
Mixer to mix the tape sources.
Old school Sony 9" CRT PVM connected to a set top box.
There's even an 8-track there at the moment.
Have playback of HD files via the RPI, FM radio, Freesat TV/Radio, and Internet radio covered, I don't bother with DAB.

May be not as aesthetically pleasing as some of the systems on here, but it serves my needs and sounds fine to me. I have lots of equipment from the era I and swap it around every so often after servicing.

Downstairs I'm a bit more up to date as there's an Arcam A85 another pair of B&W speakers, a CD72, another RPI, and a project turntable, and a lot of vinyl and tapes.

Anybody else like old school kit? biggrin

Hi GSE,

I tried sending you a PM, but not sure whether you got it.

Anyway it's clear you like working on older hifi kit.

Not sure where you are in the country (I'm in North West London), but I have an old B&O Beocentre 3300 which was my father in law's. It comprises a turntable and AM/FM receiver. I'm not sure how well it works - the speakers are definitely in need of some TLC - rubber round the drivers is perished, and may need new drivers. As far as I know the amp section is ok, and I know he used to use the record deck (not sure if the auto arm still works automatically).

Anyway, if it's of any interest to you, you're welcome to have it free of charge assuming you're able to pick it up.

Cheers,

Conrad.

Absolutely frickin jealous of everyone's kit, I'm getting back into it after a long time out. I just got myself a 37 year old Hitachi HA-3700 (I'm a sucker for old stuff) as a base and probably going to get some Gale Gold monitor mk2's in a couple of days as I'm on a budget.

I want to Bi-Wire the Gales so am I right that because I have 2 sets of speaker inputs on the Hitachi I can Bi-Wire to the amp easily and juse have speaker A and B switches on at the same time?

If you have an A+B option that should work.
A or B will give you treble OR bass but not both at the same time.

Yes it does, it has an A speaker off/on and a B speaker off/on switch so that is great thanks.

Good spot. If memory serves me correctly, it was a little less than £5 for a pair. I'd like to say they were rigorously A/B tested and chosen for their non-resonant qualities, but at the end of the day, they do what they're meant to (hide the light bulbs) and, as far as lampshades go, that's good enough for me.

You might also note the megabucks pipe insulation holding the speaker cables off the floor.

I had the KI version of that amp some years ago paired with the matching CD17 KI.

Lovely things.
Moved the amp on years ago but still got the CD player in case the streaming part of the system takes a wobbler.

Even the remote control is classy.

I love mine but think it's a little underpowered. Keep meaning to get a PM11S3 when funds permit.

They are really nice, neutral-sounding decks, and the quality of engineering and finish are stunning. It makes for some very interesting vinyl / digital comparisons with the Wadia.
