looking at an epson tw650 - how far does the projector have to be away from the screen. Is there a general rule of thumb? Id like to put it 2.5m away

Projectorpoint have a great screen throw calculator on their website that also calculates light levels as well.

Also individual manufacturers usually have calculators available.

TW650 looks to have a very limited throw ratio of 1.02-1.23-1.

This means for a 1 metre wide screen the projector has to be between 1.02m and 1.23 m away from the screen.

So for your 2.5 m distance you're really stuck to a 7ft wide screen.

Better way to work is choose your screen size and work out where to put the projector.
6ft screen - projector has to be between 6 ft and 7ft 5inches away (usually measured from front of projector).
7ft screen - between 7ft 1 inch and 8 feet 8 inches away.

I bought a Benq 1080st when I did the smaller front room up. St being short throw, we wanted a fully immersive experience with the biggest screen size we could fit in. It pretty much covers one entire wall. If memory serves me well, the screen is around 2.8x1.2m, or 124” if I’m right, and throw distance is only 2.5m. Some have said this is too big for sitting so close, but I love it! Depends how big a screen you want I guess, but short throw is an option.
