In my experience the On/Off switch seems to be one of the weakest points on radios from a few brands.

Then it becomes tricky to tell whether it's the rechargeable batteries struggling or the unit itself.

Seems like buying a replacement every 3/4 years is all part of the listening experience these days frown

That applies to the whole domestic goods market nowadays I reckon.

scratchchin Supersignal has neither rechargeable battery or on/off switch.
(It's still "on" as a clock, even when it's off...)

I’ve got a couple of Pure One Elite IIs; have been (and still are) really good for casual DAB duties. I wanted a 3rd one for the garage and, needless to say, no longer available. So did the speaker and phone thing for there

Our kitchen Pure Evoke 1 XT & aux speaker are still going strong. I discovered a way (on youtube) to change the headphone output into an aux input, so now use a plug in Bluetooth receiver with it too.

The state of the circuit board reminds me of something that has happened to other equipment that I have seen. Mostly active speakers. The goop that is used to stop things shaking around, eventually absorbs moisture and breaks down. In doing so it becomes conductive! You can imagine what joy it is to remove that stuff.

+1. - The latest echo & echo dot sound great. I found that earlier echos made talk channels sound a bit muddy.

In 2021 I can’t think of a single reason why anyone would want a DAB radio over an Alexa/google speaker?

Can anyone enlighten me? I don’t get it.

No need for an internet connection?

Only reason I can think of.

Your listening habits are not being monitored so you don't get inundated with "We thought you might like this ..." adverts. </tinfoilhat>

We have two Echo speakers, both of which drop out repeatedly. Utter crap.

Millions of people say otherwise.

We have 12 and all work perfectly. Any issues you are having are you WiFi (probably only from a free router) not the speakers.

AIUI Alexas don't have batteries and so can't be used in a bathroom?

I walk into the kitchen and press one button and my favourite radio station comes on. Simple, no need for internet, no drop outs, can leave it on all day, even when I'm out, when I'm done I press a button and it's off.

This Exactly.

Preset buttons mean that the channel can be changed easily too.

You listen to DAB radios, they don't listen in on your private life.
