I've just found a use for my old Galaxy S2 phone. I've put it on a stand, plugged it in permanently (battery is old anyway) and by the magic of Bluetooth I have connected it to a soundbar and the sound quality is not too bad at all.

It's now my alarm clock radio and bedtime music device. If I really am having trouble sleeping then I listen to a sleep hypnosis video on youtube.

I have found a few good stations:

Absolute Radio 60s. Good music, but lots of ads.

Bluegrass Gospel. Not the sort of music I'd ever thought I would listen to, but it's actually very peaceful to drift off to and has a feel good vibe.

Radio Paradise. It's pretty diverse and I've seen it recommended a couple of time on PH. No ads.

Whisperings Solo Piano. Perfectly chilled out solo piano playing.

Kisstory. Not for bedtime, but a good mix of older pop/garage type music. This isn't listed in my alarm clock radio app, does anyone know what the right URL would be so I can add it?

Any other decent stations out of the hundred thousand or so out there?

I like The Acoustic Outpost - described as "acoustic and urban folk music from the 60s to the present" which is not quite accurate - there often seems to be a lot of quality Americana-type stuff which often engages my ear. In the Itunes list it's under "eclectic". There are rather a LOT of internet radio stations, aren't there!

That one might be a bit too hippy for me hehe it's a a bit like the gospel station, but a not as upbeat.

I'd like to find a good talk radio station that covers a broad range of topics like how LBC used to be years ago. Thesedays they only have three topics: Labour antisemitism, Islamic fundamentalism and Brexit sleep and I'm not interested in sports coverage.

Radio Montecarlo 2. It's pretty much just a nu-jazz / deep house playlist.

FIP is perfect, eclectic mix during the day, jazz/concerts at night.

No Chris Evans or double-glazing adverts or traffic news from Hartlepool.

Tune-in has now got ads which is annoying.

I don't watch much TV so have a nice white 22" PC monitor with an Amazon Fire Stick in the lounge. BlueTooths audio over to the Hifi. Really nice for NetFlix, Kodi, Tune-In, FIP radio, server choons etc.

I've been listening to Bar Rocking Blues from Addicted to Radio from the USA for years, a good selection of real rhythm and blues not the modern rhythm and blues which is more akin to soul/pop.
Problem I've had recently is the deliberate interruption of the music with adverts that obviously come from an interception of British 'local' adverts. Main culprit are the Peugeot take the long way home, turn up at a family BBQ in the bloody thing. Honda and something about owning going back to school with some crap clothes. These interruptions ruin my listening pleasure and of late I've had no alternative other than not bother listening is there a Governing body who overseas this activity? or is it what seems to be a free for all on the internet radio.

Sadly nothing in life is for free, and whilst Internet radio is much cheaper than broadcast, somebody still has to be paid to put it out there.

So it's either
Adverts
Some kind of licence
Or like radio paradise ask for donations or subscriptions

Annoying but then again the whole Internet is based on advertising.

Indeed you’re absolutely right, it’s does wind me up though because it seems adverts are everywhere. Trying to watch the Moto GP the other day I was bombarded by Ray Winston gaaambling responsible it just seems to me the quantity and quality of adverts are an onslaught on your senses.

Another vote for Radio Paradise here. Also like groove salad from Soma FM, and their mission control station is quite interesting - ambient electronica overlaid with NASA radio traffic. Radio FIP is good, and I quite like BR Klassik.
