The feet can be put on so they face inwards.

No, not universal.

You do have universal vesa mounts on the back though, so you could be a standard vesa table top stand off amazon for £20.

stupid question but on the sony how do you get the power cable out - doesnt seem to just come out and don't want to force it without knowing if that is the right way - want to thread the small end through a stand

thanks

Did you try the settings I gave you?

I think the plug is hard wired.
Can you not remove the cover and undo the wire?
If not, cut the plug off and wire a normal one on.

Don't be afraid to knock the brightness (backlight on these) up a bit to where it looks good to you.

Most modern sets will have FreeviewPlay built in, and the ability to plug in a hard drive and record to it.

Having said all that, how much is the basic Sky package?
Nearly every channel in HD, best recording and menu system out there.
A Humax box that gets even half way there is £299 with 2TB, I think I would rather pay Sky £25 a month.
Problem with the Humax boxes is after a couple of years they feel dated, so are they really that good value?
OK you can say "told you so"!
Was thinking I'd go for a Panasonic Freeview recorder but been looking at Sky (again) and £20 + another £5 to BT (we have BT Broadband and phone) means I get back my Squark Box on CNBC and all the MotoGP on BT. She gets a recorder that'll do about three progs at once (how she'll watch them heaven know as the last time with Sky the recorder was FULL!) and she already knows how to use the Sky box....

Talked to BT this morning, (about two hours worth of chat thing and telephone when I realised my phone and BB Contract had expired and I was paying over the odds....) and discussed BT TV etc too.

Seems BT TV is basically Freeview with a few additions and we won't get BT Sport as we are still copper BB. That's what she told me.
So BT TV is out and while wife is suggesting a Humax (her Mum has one) I'm thinking Sky TV (said I would never go back after dumping them a year or more ago due to cost) but I'd get a couple of channels I watch and BT sport for an extra £5. Assuming I ever get a chance to actually watch the TV might end up with multi room!

So moving on from that question I started looking at new TV. Currently have a 26" Panasonic and we need to go bigger in our new lounge. Wife seems to think a 40" is about right and TBH much bigger and it'll dominate the TV unit it'll stand on.
Been through this entire thread, apparently I don't want an IPS screen and OLED will be outside budget. Any recommendations (gizlaroc??) please.
And will it be worth waiting until Black Friday or is that just going to be "out of date" stock?

Thanks everyone for bearing with me on this, any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks, only downside for me is lack of headphone socket, assume there are ways around this.

Well it arrived, I set it up and immediately knew it was an IPS panel, boxed up and going back. Jut looked washed out.

I think I will try the Philps at RS for £399, I can't be arsed to keep trying for a VA version of the Samsung. I like amiblight too and the Philips is meant to be a very good set.

Has headphone socket too.

Oh well....
Never been a fan of anything Phillips, wondering about the Sony or LG ones although I have been using Panasonic stuff for a long time.

People have derided the headphone socket but I'm a little hard of hearing and if I turn the TV up so it's clear sound, wife/son get blasted. Also there are times I watch something early morning/late night (catch up) and don't want to wake the whole street... I use a set of Sony wireless headphones, very comfortable, can even go and make a cup of tea and still listen.

Why not a fan of Philips?

They arguably made the best CRT TVs with Sony and Loewe back in the day, the processing on their flat panels is right up there with the best and many think the Philips OLED is the best one you can buy.

The Sony and LG models are all IPS at the moment unless you go to the 49" XF9005 from Sony, so they are all going to be a bit pap.
