As I'm now nearing the end of our lounge refurbishment, I need to look at how I'm going to connect my hifi system up and in particular how I'm going to connect my 2 amps to 1 set of speakers (not at the same time!).

My main amp in use most of the time is a Yamaha RX-V677 driving a 3.1 setup, mainly used for watching TV/films etc. I also have an EAR Yoshino 859 valve amp that I want to have (easily) available for listening to music via my 2 main speakers. Both amps will live in a TV unit/piece of furniture and I'd prefer not to have to keep moving that or moving the amps once in situ to get at the cables at the back, so I'm looking to see if there is a solution rather like a speaker switch where you can drive set a, b or a&b but I'd use it such that it would be Amp A or Amp B driving the speakers (never A&B for obvious reasons!).

Does such a source selector system exists and if not, can I use a speaker switch but connected in reverse (so to speak) or just 4 simple DPDT switches?

The speaker switcher I have puts the speakers in parallel pairs to deal with the resistance change so I would not use it for amp switching.

For amp switching I'd use two dpdt switches.

Shame I haven't got the problem of one amp and 2 sets of speakers. Did you read the OP?

I've found this - Speakers Switch Box (Valve + SS) a snip at 379 Euros!

I think at that price, I'd rather just either run a second set of cables to the speakers, or fanny arse around at the back of the amps!

Or I could get away with two 2 gang intermediate switch which seem to do the switching I need, just not sure what current my system would push out, hence if they are suitably rated.

Now starting to find other solutions but I'd still like any other suggestions!

The current will be nothing to worry switches about. Think about the thin cable you "could" use if you wanted too. It's never going to melt.
