This is such a good sub: https://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers/XXLS400.ht...
I'm sure, unfortunately it's well over budget, and not particularly small! ;-) Crackie said:
I din't know these existed but now I do it's a must have. Pairing with a pair of ceiling speakers in the kitchen that powered by a Sonos Connect Amp, it conveniently has an RCA sub out.
This is small enough to go underneath the radar both in terms of cost and size. If I gradually increase the level very slowly from zero a little each day by Christmas day I can bang out the carols.

Every studio monitor I've ever heard has just been a bit soul less, as you would expect. Clinical, perfunctory and a bit dull. Yes I know they're not supposed to colour the sound in anyway, and the best ones don't, but that's why they're best left in the studio. I wouldn't choose to listen to a set for any length of time, none of them are an easy listen. https://www.scan.co.uk/products/adam-sub8-160w-8-a...

I've not heard these, so may be wrong, but that's my feeling on monitors.
I know where you are coming from with that assessment. I do find the Adams quite easy to listen to. I have them on my PC and thery get used for music, TV and gaming quite a lot and arent fatiguing to listen to and often bring a smile as they are surprisingly good for such a small box. Definitely worth a listen if you can find somewhere close.
I got one of the Fostex ones for my kitchen. It integrates well with the washing machine, hand held vac and the Monitor Audio CP-CT165's.
It's position in the boiler cupboard unfortunately means there's a node at the kitchen sink where it gets a bit much but overall it's a great addition to the kitchen.
