Anyone used one of these devices? (e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BW-HDMI-SCART-Composite-C... or https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GFPCHYA/ref=sspa_dk...

Have retired my 15yr old plasma (Pioneer 436XDE) to the games room. All good. I have no AV amp up there and no desire to get one. Test rigged the TV up to a single speaker through the TV's analogue audio output and it worked OK with all sources (Freeview, HDMI connected Firestick, HDMI connected Wii).

So I bought a Sonos Beam to up the quality of the sound.

Now, the Beam only connects to the optical audio output of the TV as there is no HDMI ARC. All connected up and only the Freeview source works frown

Plenty of Googling "after purchase" suggests the Pioneer cannot output audio through the optical connection from all sources. Bugger.

It does look like it might be able to do this through non-HDMI connected sources. Am going to test this out with the Wii in the morning. But that still leaves the Firestick.

Hence the opening question smile

The PH (/my usual) thing to do would be to use this to buy a new TV...but the Pioneer is still in tip top condition and gives great picture quality. I also hate chucking perfectly usable kit away. So for £15 I'm thinking this might be the most sensible option (even though picture quality might slip a little, and I won't get fancy audio streams to test the Beam properly).

Your links broken, delete the ) on the end to make it work.

Doesn't the Panny have analogue audio outputs on RCA sockets on the connection box thingy?

I say you'd be better off converting the audio outputs to an optical to run the Beam. Converting to scart will ruin the PQ IMO

Something like this

Done (and added a more likely option).

It does, and it's those I was using previously to test....

I had thought about an ADC - thought I had one, but it was only a DAC...

Agree that might be a better option. Thanks.

Just had another look at the Amazon listings. It specifically says it converts to composite video on the scart output which is the lowest quality available on a scart connection.

Cheers.

I'm going to give the ADC a whirl.

Works a treat.

ANOther thing that needs plugging in, but now have sound from all sources smile Ta for the link...

It has made me wonder what must have been going through the minds of Pioneers engineers in 2004/5....through the digital output I can pass all the analogue sources but not HDMI (a digital output)...through the analogue output I can pass anything.

But all good now and all set up.
