I have a Yamaha YT1840 cinema system connected via 10m fibre optic HDMI 2.0 cable to a sony KD65AG8 TV ARC HDMI port.

Also connected to the Yamaha is a V5 virgin box.

The virgin box operates without any sound issues, this is connected locally with a 1m HDMI cable to the yamaha system.

On watching netflix and prime on tv there is a 1 sec drop in the sound sporadically, this can happen twice a minute then not again for another 4 or 5mins+.

I have started to play about with the yamaha system settings etc. along with the TV settings with no luck so far.

The HDMI Fibre cable is ATZEBE HDMI 2.0 4K@60Hz HDR/High Speed 18Gbps/4:4:4/3D/ARC/HEC/CEC/HDCP 2.2 etc. it says all the right things and gets good reviews, it also was not that cheap circa £40 iirc.

As the cable box is fine it's obviously the connection between the TV sound output to the yamaha system. Now is it the cable or a setting ???

Picture is perfect never any issues.

Thoughts ?

My guess would be the cable. I'm not sure why you would go fibre on such a small distance? Can you easily try another one?

Not sure you've read my post correctly. The distance is 10metres between TV and source meaning it requires to be fibre to carry the 4k content. Copper would more than likely drop out over that distance.

I did clock the 10m bit. That wouldn't be a problem for a decent hdmi lead.

It might also be worth googling your model of TV to make sure it isn't an issue with that model.

A lot of AV installers will actively avoid using arc as it’s a pain in the arse

Had a Sony TV on one job and I couldn’t get the ARC function to work at all

Since then I avoid using it and use the alternative audio outs from the TV

I had the same issue with ARC that was solved with a replacement cable so it does sound like a cable issue.

£40 is damned cheap for a hybrid fibre cable IMO. On Avforums the recommended hybrid fibre tends to be the Ruipro hybrid cable which is closer to 2-3 times the price.

As other have said try to swap cable.
ARC is a pain but HDMI 2.1 should be fixing a lot of it.

Swapping out the cable isn't impossible but will involve a lot of effort to retain the newly finished room, I did run 2 x Cat 6 cables in aswell so I may try HDMI extenders. Although the hiccup doesn't seem to have happened much recently.

I'm using the same cable with no problems, several people on Avforums had said it was good so I got one. Sound dropouts with ARC does seem quite a common thing, some TV models seem to have it more than others.
