I have five windows facing the street, all straight no bays and would like to have them open and close with sunrise and sunset

I have had a look at Silentgliss, but the basic module is £1100, plus £400 for the radio receiver and so on, it’s looking ridiculously expensive.

Any suggestions out there as to alternatives? Google doesn’t help or I’m asking the wrong questions....

Thanks. Charles

It is the control and weight capability that adds to the cost so much.

SilentGliss, Goest and Lutron (and others) have several features that add to the cost.

- Slow start and stop so that curtains dont swing as they start suddendly or come to an abrubt stop and
- Stepper motors so they know where they are, so if you ask for a 43% open, they will open to that point, same point every time.

There are cheaper models and brands that are just a motor and wind one way or the other depending on buttons pressed (or timers etc)

The only one I can remember at the moment at Somfy, but a quick google of that name throws up others.

I would always go with Lutron or Silent Gliss ... I have lost count of the number of disgruntled customers who've gone for a Somfy-based blind/motor systems who've complained about the noise or lack of accurate control once installed. Granted, with curtains, you either require 'open' or 'close' as command.

I too looked into electric curtains in 1 room and concluded that the cost was bonkers for what they actually do. I even looked on Ebay for used ones and they still go for silly money.

Ikea do a range of powered blinds - no experience with them but might be worth a look

Ok, but not brilliant; app is clunky, and controls need finessing

We have 4 of them.
