I'm in the market for a new TV, and they all have built in Freeview these days. It would be nice though to do away with the youview box altogether and get a TV that can record too... Does anyone know one with this capability?

Other than that I am not after anything special. Just a LED, 4K smart TV from a decent brand. Without the recording you cash get a 43 inch Samsung for £315. Happy to pay more to get recording built in though

This may or may not help, however I bought an LG TV last year but only realised recently that you can record if you plug in an external HDD, meaning I could get rid of my crappy humax box. So you may find other TVs which do similar.

I think they can pretty well all record by adding a HDD. Not sure how many tuners they have - if it's a single tuner you presumably won't be able to record one channel while watching another.

However, whereas the cheapy Toshiba we had, with Freeview guide, would record to a 32GB USB flash drive, the Sony Android with YouView as its user guide we've got now needs a minimum of 256GB. One thing we miss is that it can't do live pause which the Toshiba could.

In practice, over Christmas when there was a bunch of programmes wife wanted to record, I just plugged the BT YouView baox back in.

I have a LG TV that can be set to record to a HD or SD card plugged into the USB port. However it cannot be taken off the channel it is recording - so cannot view anything else (even an external input) when it is recording). As it has a single tuner only one channel can be recorded at the same time.

Thanks guys. I'm aware of the usb storage, but I'm after the full record multiple channels, pause, rewind functionality you get with a recording box

Mine does all of the pause/rewind etc. with the plugged in HDD, except multiple channels. Looks like Samsung do this though, essentially you’ll need a TV with multiple tuners, eg https://www.simplyelectricals.co.uk/blog/samsung-q...

To be honest though I never use recording any more, I just watch everything on-demand
