I’ve had my Arcam AVR200 since 2004 or so. Still being used daily in my home cinema setup.

Slightly off topic but when plugging stuff into the front HDMI on my Sony amp, I've seen tiny sparks. I'm guessing that's not good! Sounds like I need to make sure the source is off before plugging in?
There is power flowing down the HDMI, some cheap extender and switches actually use it, so it being there is perfectly normal. But no, ideally all devices should be turned off when connecting, but equally we all do it from time to time!

I had a Sony STR-DB925 in use for the best part of 20yrs.

It started to give up the ghost intermittently, so replaced it with a Denon 2300. Can't believe I've had it 4yrs. Too soon to tell how long it'll last though...

Yep we still use our Sony STR-DB930, which came with us to this house back in 2004, and has been in daily use ever since. So it must be close to 20 years old too.

It’s now the main amp in the games room, and is connected optically to both the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

It’s driving our Monitor Audio Silver floor standers, and some Kef Rears ( can’t remember the model of those !) on stands, it still sounds fantastic.

It’s never skipped a beat and has been used almost every day for hours. When Tom is on line on the Xbox One.

I don’t see any need to replace it, and I’m sure it will probably out last me!

Peter Tyson offer 0% finance deals so man maths is starting to think again (it hurts seeing the amount come out in one lump due to your own personal fk-up, as opposed to £60 a month),

2nd hand last years models or current with 6 year warranty inc with 0% finance scratchchin

What do you need and would you be future proofing? I must admit they have been on the back burner for me but certainly I would be seeing what my old one did vs what I can future proof in. When I bought mine it was really just for 5.1, didn't look at the way it was all going which was a drop off for me.

I think my old 2300 future proofed me for my needs as much as i required/thought tbh, just need it for ps4/streaming/tv audio so i dont really need anything overly fancy.

I imagine until 8k comes out, most avr's are future proofed for a simpleton like me really

I started off with a Sherwood in the late 90s from Richer Sounds then upgraded to a Marantz SR5200 around 2003ish - the surround board went on it just after the warranty expired, very common issue on those AVRs, but it still worked in stereo and it spent the last 15+ years in my caravan in crappy over-winter conditions until last October, still works. Replaced that with a second hand Denon AVR3803 in 2009 and that has been absolutely flawless until I replaced it with a second hand Anthem MRX500 about four months ago as I was looking for room correction and better music playback.

There's a three months old Denon X3600H just gone up on AVF in the last hour for £600 delivered, £95 cheaper than Richer Sounds (were it came from originally, not sure how the warranty works with them though?)
Or an older Yamaha for £60 if you're near Bucks!

I've got a Panasonic xr55 since 2005 used with Kef eggs from around then too, used as my everyday setup and not missed a beat.
For movie watching once a week I think it will last until replaced for something newer.

My previous receiver was an Onkyo TX-SR705. I bought it in 2008 and I replaced it with my current Yamaha RX-A2070 after almost exactly 10 years. Reason being I wanted to take advantage of Atmos as well as a general uplift in quality. I like to buy the right gear and have it last me, rather than swap from one £300 receiver to another every couple of years like half of the folk on AVForums seem to hehe

My old Onkyo is still going strong at my friend's house, too.

Sony dg-810? Dg-820?

Bought around 2008 and still going strong! It's seen some proper use over those years.

5 house moves including the transitions from House patties to romantic dates and now the family home! biggrin

People with old amps, are you not worried about the new HD audio stuff? I remember having an old Sony amp which was perfect but when blu rays came out I needed to get a player that had RCA outputs so I could connect to the amp as it couldn't deal with HD formats over HDMI.

Thanks for the heads up, apparently the Denon nor the RS warranty is transferable.

Its weird, id buy a car without warranty yet comes to something like this, im hesitant

I read the thread later and saw that, but if you have the original receipt it shouldn't be an issue in store I'd imagine? She dropped the price to £550 almost immediately and has agreed a collected sale this morning for £480, bargain!

I bought my most recent AVR without any concerns for atmos etc - fitting six speakers in to a family living room is tricky enough without adding nearly as many again. I also don't have a 4K TV and have no current plans to buy one - if anything I'll likely buy an older high end 1080P telly, I only moved away from CRT six years ago and that was only in case the stand the TV was on collapsed and killed my then nearly one year old! (36" Panasonic CRT that weighed 70+kg!)

I'm on my 3rd AV rcvr, the older two work perfectly but have been re-purposed away from mainline duties. The first one I bought in 2000.

The instances where I've upgraded were to acquire the latest connectivity. The current one handles 4k pass-through and sound through HDMI in/out puts.

The HDCP 2.2 protocol saw to that where every piece of kit in the chain has to meet that standard or it is no 4k and nice sound for you. It can be worked round with an older amp using a return channel (in my case optical) but I got bored with time alignment / sound syncing issues.

Yeah, i noticed it in another thread that someone was selling an Amp.

Think someone offered her £450 yesterday as she didnt have papers proving sale. Finds them and sells it for £480 and yes that is a massive bargain.
