It takes 7 months for the platter to get up to speed and a full year for it to stop wink

Ironically, the platter doesn't actually start as the motor isn't powerful enough to move it on its own - you have to give it a push to start it.

When I was buying HiFi "back then", I always wanted Linn but could never afford Linn. Now I'm older, I can afford more but I don't need to because old Linn is cheap these days.

The HiFi shop manager showed the impressionable university-aged me the Linn Karik, with its milled aluminium disc loading tray that ran on bearings. He rapped his knuckles on the open tray to demonstrate how over engineered it was and cut himself. It stuck with me.

Linn Kariks go for £300-£400 these days instead of the "over £1300" 30 years ago, so when a nice one cropped-up, I grabbed it.

And it is every bit as amazing as I remember. I was about to put all my CDs up for sale as I have everything ripped and stashed on my NAS, but the prices these companies like Music Magpie will pay for CDs these days... well, they're just not worth the effort to sell. They're offering literally 6p per disc.

CDs won't make a comeback like vinyl has but I am hoping to buy more second hand ones and supplement my collection (I have a few hundred). I don't want a turntable because I can't be bothered to build a new collection of records now and I really don't need CDs in my life but the Karik has renewed my interest in CDs partly because I love the engineering but also because I have found myself listening to a whole disc end-to-end for a change, and listening to music I haven't heard for quite a while.

Oh, and I bought a 2nd pair of "good" Mission 751s because 4 speakers is better than 2.

I recently received these and I’m really enjoying how it all sounds. Pioneer SX 450 with Celestion Ditton 15 XR speakers and a TEAC cassette deck. Amp and speakers are 1970s. In your price range; free.

Your lucky people are trying to sell the amps for 200+ and the speakers for 100

It's even better if you pair it with the Numerik DAC.

I tested one once on an all-Linn system and I could hear the difference between the analogue outputs on the Karik 2 vs the same Karik 2 using the Numerik but it wasn't necessarily "better" for me... just different... and very subtle.

I’m the same as you, buying up cheap cd’s...we have over 2000.
Now scouring the ads for a Linn system. I used to walk past a linn dealer on the way to school 30 odd years ago.......

Where are you buying your CDs from? I've only (so far) managed to buy a bulk load from a colleague.

Looking at a 3rd pair of Missions and a 3rd LK100... better, or diminishing returns? I'm only looking. I think it'd be silly. But so affordable.
