Just discovered this thread.
Love the Sony set and your choice of tapes….so similar to mine back in the day.
I have an old Kenwood MIDI pro-logic stack in the garage sans the speakers which were pretty carp, I’ll have to get it out the box and give it a whirl. Naturally this will mean buying some speakers 😀

Has the volume control gone mental yet?
The rotary encoder goes screwy and gives random volumes when changing. Use the remote.
No, not yet but it's very early days... Plugged it in to show my boy and only played a couple of songs. The rotary encoder goes screwy and gives random volumes when changing. Use the remote.
Being honest, it's like new so would hope it remains fault free for a while although I appreciate age even without use can make things deteriorate.
Will bear on mind... Cheers
Recently purchased a NAD 3120 amp off ebay for the spare room, it's the 'audiophile' version of the 3020 and lacks the tone controls. Cost just over £100.
It's nearly 40 years old and despite it's age, is in great cosmetic condition. Sounds really lovely too, hooked up to a pair of Q Acoustics 3010s and a cheap as chips Roku box acting as a Tidal Streamer. Kids use it for movies and I use it to play guitar backing tracks.

Another unexpected thread/site! I listen to quite a bit of stuff using my ancient Wharfedale speakers, a NAD 3020 amp. and a Pioneer DV717 bought unseen from E bay for £25. Also Beyer headphones - a present from my son some years ago.
I’ve still got my Pioneer DV 717 which I bought from new, it’s a proper solid thing and I still use it as my main CD transport now these days too.Come to think of it I also have another pioneer DVD player too, I think that one is as new sat in its original box in my loft.
They are both over 25 years old now, amazing how to think that they are still going strong after that period of time.

All of my kit is at least 25 years old, and some of it nearer 40.Come to think of it I also have another pioneer DVD player too, I think that one is as new sat in its original box in my loft.

Really enjoyed this thread cover to cover.
Came close to winning a few of the amps mentioned on ebay but was either outbid or seller withdrew item.
My used Cambridge 640A Azur served me well for 6 years. The right channel cuts out. None of the lights work on the front and neither does the remote.
I replaced it with a HK 970 and it’s amazing. Has a warm sound. Sounds vintage. It pairs well with my Mordaunt Short Aviano 902i. They are tricky speakers to match. Didn’t sound as good on other amps.
The HK has so much ‘sq’ I am hearing notes in music I haven’t heard before.
Toying with the idea of using the sub out. A tiny bit of low end is missing at times. I plugged in my PC speaker sub which is a Bose Concept II. It filled out the bottom end but was not as musical as I had hoped.
I think I might get a sub anyway just in case there is the odd bass guitar song that sounds better with it. Limited by space I am thinking of a Q Acoustics 3070S.
