Today I got my Tannoy Lancasters down from the loft, hooked them up and fired up the music.
These are the 15” Monitor Golds.
Perfectly clear and so sensitive that they are remarkably easy to drive very loud with a very modest amp.
The cabinets are tatty but I have some narrow GFA-style (chimp’s coffin) boxes from Magna Audio and a pair of Reference Fidelity crossovers to play with. So, I think Easter will be devoted to upgrading these and working on the wife to have them installed in the sitting room.
I had been planning to move them on but the HiFi dealers in the part of North Italy where these are located failed to respond to my offer to sell or trade them and I have now made the error of falling in love with them again, although my wife is seriously unimpressed at the size of the Lancaster enclosures, let along the Magna Audio ones.

Golds, considered by many to be the sweet spot of those Tannoys.
Back in the day I built a few enclosures with Golds and HPDs in for various customers for studio and small PA use.
To please the wife, maybe get the cabinets sprayed in a colour to suit your decor and make new grilles with a cloth to fit in.

Looking for inspiration for my home office set up
I have set it up with a George Nelson Action office so I thought a period music centre would go well with it. I have seen a Beocentre 2002 with a nice teak stand but it's a bit more than I wanted to spend on something that's a whim
Can anyone recommend what else I could search for?
Ie other brands of a similar vintage and style or is it B&O or nothing?
Thanks in advance

What is your budget? A 2002 isn’t really contemporary with your George Nelson, it’s early 1980s I have set it up with a George Nelson Action office so I thought a period music centre would go well with it. Budget say 500 that can flex to 1k for something superb. Would rather spend less if at all possible.I am not really looking for absolutely perfect period match - more something of a similar style. Having said that a 60s all in one that sounds passable would be great
It's an old Georgian townhouse and I've done part of the basement up as an office / dayroom, so it's not like I'm going full 1960s
I've got a sonos amp down there already.

Saba or Grundig music centres from the 70s and 80s pop up from time to time, many with integrated Dual turntables. If you don’t need a turntable, Tandberg made some superb receivers and cassette decks to which a Wiim mini could be discreetly added for modern streaming.

It would mainly be for the turntable - although I do have a grand total of 3 cassettes If you don’t need a turntable, Tandberg made some superb receivers and cassette decks to which a Wiim mini could be discreetly added for modern streaming.

The Saba and Grundig options beckon then, although several decent Japanese options might also do.
There was also a Braun music centre - Audio 400 from recollection - that might fit your budget, although I reckon you’d be lucky to get a working Braun SK61 for your budget (especially as the ponytail hipster brigade tend to snap them up to accessorise their Vitsoe shelves) but it might be worth putting a watch on.

Found a Brionvega system.
Absolutely fantastic but so far out of budget that my justification calculator had a meltdown
Totally stunning.

When I was a kid I had a Mitsubishi MC 8000
I think there is one for sale in reasonable condition on ebay at the moment for about £500
I decided to kind of replicate it so I have a Ruark R3
with a Project VTE on the wall above it
My old dads Kenwood CD separate appears to have given up. 1993 vintage. I’d thought to pick him up a replacement from Richer Sounds or similar for £100 ish.
I have learnt that Kenwood have exited the separate market. As it seems most of the other prevalent Japanese brands have as well. An entry level NAD CD player some £270 now.
Last time I looked this stuff was cheap! No longer it seems

What’s wrong with it? New laser sorted my 1992 Sony CD player for about £25. I have learnt that Kenwood have exited the separate market. As it seems most of the other prevalent Japanese brands have as well. An entry level NAD CD player some £270 now.

AVOID the Beocenter 2002! It was largely Japanese underneath and is B&O in name only About the only thing on it that is true B&O is the turntable mechanism. It has buiilt-in loudness compensation that you cannot switch off and the amplifier output stage is based around STK modules that are no longer available and are not known for their reliability.I have set it up with a George Nelson Action office so I thought a period music centre would go well with it. If you want a B&O music centre with vinyl, cassette and radio (and you do, because they made the best music centres), stick to the Beocemter 3300/4600/5000/7000/7002/7007/7700 models. Other than that, also consider:
- Sony HMK-70/ HMK-80/HMK-7000
- Goodmans MCD-100 (it's actually a Hitachi...)
- Hitachi SDT-7675
- National Panasonic SG-32070 or SG-3090
- Sharp SG-450 (the 500 is lovely but is fearsomely complicated as it uses touch-sensitive controls)
- Hacker MC-600
- various Dynatron models
- Akai AC-3800
