Not as vintage as others; but current my loft is host to an Arcam Alpha 6, 7 and 8 integrated amps; an Alpha 10 & 10P pairing and my trusty NAD C320BEE integrated

All in full working order but the Arcam Alpha 8 for some reason can be a bit crackly (needs a thorough clean I suspect)

I've also got up there an immaculate pair of Acoustic Energy AE109 speakers with all original foams that haven't degraded; a pair of B&W 602 S2 standmounts and a pair of KEF R100s that unfortunately got damaged (the black lacquer outers cracked when they were accidentally dropped)

I keep meaning to get the Arcam amps out (especially the 10/10P) and the AE speakers to set them up in the back spare bedroom; but never get round to it...

I've got JBL 308P MkII active studio monitors in my office as I like their sound and they suit the room really well; whereas the AE speakers are a bit too boomy unfortunately. The 602s sound fantastic as well; but it means an amp/source (as well as my M2 Mac Mini Pro & SMSL DAC) etc - so too many boxes/wires...

I sold my B&W DM2As (bought new in 1975) to my inlaws and found a mint Audiolab 8000A for them.
Bargain system which sounds as good as any new mid-spec audio at a fraction of the cost.

So my NAD 3020 seems to be louder on one channel than the other now. I am not an electronics expert, I opened it up and gave it a liberal squirt of Deoxit, checked none of the caps were bulging and that was about it for me. Still the same sadly. I had a quick look at amps and they all look really expensive! And I need phono, CD and cassette.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than 'take your NAD to get serviced somewhere'?

I knew somebody with a pair of those, swear he said they cost ££££.

Has anyone noticed a lull in the prices for this sort of thing last say, five years at least?

I've bought a few choice bits recently that I've wanted for years but have only just become available at sensible prices without crazy bidding wars etc. It's almost like the fashion for this stuff is over with everyone wanting the convenience of Alexa type stuff*

  • i say 'Alexa type stuff' as I'm a vinyl-playing luddite, ignorant to modern music-reproduction methods. Whatever normal people stream Spotify out of...
