Can't you buy a simple switchbox to share 1 HDMI socket between 2 devices?
Of course I can, but it would break the home automation / harmony routine, and, deprive me of an unnecessary upgrade!

I have an HDMI switcher some where :-o

Maybe you need to buy a gramaphone!
Do you want Dolby B with that?
... and tweeters

.. another question - if I'm to upgrade my amp - I am thinking a speaker upgrade in terms of adding atmos might be fun and help justify it in my mind.

2 Questions.

1) I'd be adding atmos top middle overheads. Do you notice this in movies? is this addition significant?

I have an unusually high ceiling - 11ft . I can add these speakers easily as I'd utilise the picture rail running round the room to hide the cables. The easiest install for me would be mounting them directly above the picture rails = 10ft up - pointing inwards / angled down. They could easily be mounted parallel to our listening position. I'm not putting them "on" the ceiling unless they are right up against the wall sides - aesthetics. I have NO access above me (lath and plaster) ceilings. Would this be adequate? For reference, my surround sides (just behind us each side, bipoles) are just under 6ft up the walls. Am I just going to be adding more surround sides if I don't put them actually above us? They'd be above us, just to the sides!

2) I have a single central back surround on the rear wall behind and above us. I have no intention of changing this. I assume most amps like my current Denon support a single surround back?

This would make a 6.1.2 system

Cheers
