And as a bonus you can get proper fast broadband!
'proper fast' I wouldnt be that sure.

I have Virgin and it aint that fast! However, ANYTHING is better than Sky broadband, they are, without doubt, thw biggest bunch of ccensoredts know to man! wink
Which package are you on? 2meg?

I'm on the 20meg I get 20meg nearly ALL the time, none of this drop off during peak hours rubbish. Virgin BB has been FAR more reliable than any other provider I've had over the years.

Of course, you need to pay extra for the 10/20/50meg stuff but packaged up with TV&phone, it's good value..

Indeed it reveals which sites have crappy servers as your own connection is no longer the bottleneck biggrin PH is ok, scoobynet isn't for example. before on other BB packaged they were all slow.

Well, as soon as my Sky box fails again (and it will be out of warranty nexttime) and they don't change it for free, I'm cancelling my subscription which also includes Sky broadband. It seems to me that they are intentionally supplying cheap boxes that will go wrong in order to make alot of money out of their insurance offerings.
How would them supplying cheap boxes make them a lot of money on insurance? If the boxes were that bad they'd be losing in the insurance...or have I misunderstood...confused

Mine did this today too.

Does your surname begin with B or near to B in the alphabet? Do you live anywhere near Kent?

I've left mine unplugged for the last half an hour and will be switching it on again in a tick. Hopefully that'll cure it.

I'm convinced Sky send stuff to the digiboxes to screw them up if you've no insurance (and no, I don't believe in aliens or any other conspiracy theories!).
I have had the exact same problem redface and my surname begins with B but I dont live in Kent!!!!!!!!!!!!

Virgin are not in my area, so no TV from them. Darn it, they got some good deals as well. All seems fine for the time being, but for how long is the question.

Mine was ok for 2 days after I reset it, then it went again. Reset it last night again and is working OK for now. Let me know how long yours lasts.

Thanks

This happened to our Sky+ box. I would record something but it wouldn't play back... the little green light circle would go around but the screen would freeze. Box was out of warranty, surprise surprise.

Changed to Virgin which offers the same function, but the broadband is better.

When I stayed at someones in Cambridge she had Virgin and I just found the system painfully slow to use with dated software - (ie the EPG was wrong).

Mine's still ok, but it stays unplugged from the phone socket. No way is that plug going in there.

If I have the little cable black triangle thing in the pavement outside, will Virgin have to dig up my garden to get it into my house...?

I used this version maybe once a year, I had the same issues as others, failed recordings, no pause etc, but all now working perfectly.
It just adds an extra bit to the version posted earlier.

WARNING - following this advice is totally at your discretion and anything which happens to your digibox as a result is your responsibility, not mine. You will lose all recorded programmes from your Sky+ Planner.

Sky tech support can talk you through performing a system restore over the phone. To do this yourself, press 'services' on your Sky plus remote, then select option 4. Next press 0, 1, select - you should now see the engineer's menu. Choose option 8, 'Full System Reset'. The box will now take a few minutes to reset itself.

Try pausing or recording again, and if the problem persists disconnect the digibox from the mains power. Press and hold the 'left' and 'right' navigation buttons on the front of the digibox whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding the buttons in for about 20 seconds, and when the ring of light on the front comes on, press the 'select' button on the front of the digibox (between the left and right buttons you were holding). The Sky+ recording logo lights will spin backwards and, according to the Sky engineer, this will "clear the hard drive".

Once this is done, disconnect the digibox from the mains power again and this time press and hold the 'back up' button whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding it for about 15 seconds until 3 lights on the front of the box come on and you get a full-screen message saying "Updating system software. Do not disconnect mains supply or satellite dish."

Leave the digibox doing its thing for about 10 minutes and it should be fixed! Try pausing and recording things again... hopefully you've just saved yourself £65.

After working perfectly for today, my sky+ box is squeaking/clicking very loudly now and frozen again. Sounds like a hard drive issue maybe...? I'm going to try the "big" reset next. If that doesn't work, I think I'm going for the virgin triple bundle. apparently if the V+ boxes break down, Virgin will repair/replace them.
