I know a few of you in PH work for Sky so any idea how I can upgrade my Sky+ box to a HD box for a good price. Will Sky be dropping prices soon ?

Thanks

Have you not checked their site today? All upgrades to SkyHD and new customers can get HD boxes for £49.

No reason why you can't do HDMI>DVI by converter...

ETA Damn, beaten to it! wink

Use an HDMI to DVI lead

You'll need to use the optical output for sound though.

So not using the red and white cable that I currently use? it's going straight to a Sony cinema system that's quite old, thanks!

£49 for the box is a good deal (free install too) but I grudge paying the £9.75 per month for the HD Subs.

I think i'll leave it for a while yet & see if they do away with the extra subscription costs.

And i just realised the £9.75 does not get you HD movies, so i am wondering if i can cancel my standard definition movie pack, and only have HD movies, keeping the cost the same as it is now..anyone know?

i thought the £9.75 included HD versions of anything you subscribed to - so if you have movies you get HD movies and if you have sports you get HD sports.

If you're using stereo RCAs you're only getting Matrix Surround (Pro-Logic) at best. Some of the HD Movie Channels now transmite 5.1DD which is what goes over optical.

If your surround processor is not DD compatible (no TOSLink or SPDIF) then you are losing nothing by connecting via stereo RCA

It is.

If you are subscribed to movies you get HD movies.

If you have sports you get HD sports.

Freebies are BBC HD/Channel 4 HD. Plus the arts/discovery channels if you picked them in your original mix.

Cheers Plotters, looks like it does have a digital audio input (I assume that's the the SPDIF) I'll get one of these as well then

thanks

Cool thanks smile

I have just come up against another barrier, not for the first time. The sky website will not allow me to create an account no matter which browser i use! I just keep getting time out errors. If you call to ask them to sort it out, they just tell you you can do it on the phone for £200...if you are having trouble using the website mad

If its a SPDIF input (single RCA) then that wont be much help as SkyHD boxes ONLY output Optical (another genius decision from Sky that, pick the inferior of two standards)

You can convert TOSLink to SPDIF however with a converter box.

If its got an optical input, you're good to go.

Good post smile

Just registered, although the system seemed to be a bit cheeky in adding multiroom for an additional £9.75 per month - had to reverse a step and take that bit out - which then caused my £30 setup fee to be included frown

Still, £49 plus £30 setup doesn't seem too bad smile

I wonder how long we'll be waiting..?

It is still not £49 and free set up, as advertised???

How do they get away with this type of thing, dealing with anyone is a minefield these days frown

Yup smile

I can only assume that free setup sneekily involves taking multiroom too - ah well, still a good price.
