I have a 2hr 12 minute iMovie video (plus a few titles and audio tracks that add to the size of the file) that I'd like to put on one DVD (my AmDram group's latest production). If I try export it to iDVD (I'm using iLife 09) then the file is ridiculously big even in the lowest of the three quality options they offer and simply won't fit on a Single layer DVD (4.7GB max).

I want to have Chapters in the end movie so going through iDVD is a must (unless there is another option I don't know about) and to further complicate matters my Macbook is old and doesn't have the Dual layer capability of the newer machines. Is there any way I can get the whole thing on one DVD? I guess it comes down to somehow reducing the file quality/size but as I said, when I try to export to iDVD even at the smallest quality option the file is huge. How else can I reduce this file size?

Any suggestions? Surely someone has been faced with this dilemma before...?!

Hmmm.. I'll give this a bump in case anyone who hasn't seen it might be able to help. I'm wondering if perhaps it's in the wrong forum and maybe I should be in Photography & Video...

I found some really helpful people on here. There is an Apple Mac user forum.

I use iMovie but am still on 06. Got to admit I have never had to burn a file that big. There are various options for exporting, have you looked at Quicktime?
