Hello all,

Well like the title says, please help me find a shallow amp!!!!

Here is a picture of my current set-up - I am using a Denon DR77 and it only has one RCA input and it is too deep, so it is sat sideways to fit in. The cabinet/bookshelf is made flush with the set back wall, so I can't really change the cabinet depth.

What I'm looking for is an Amp/CD player (and DAB Receiver/ Multi-room if possible as well?) with 3+ RCA input (For Sky, Xbox and PC) - The trouble is I only have 30cm from where the glass front of the cabinet will be and the back of the cabinet - So with all the leads adding to the space needed, I'm looking at a maximum depth of 25/26cm.

I would like to spend around £200-400, more if required.

The Sonos fits well, but only has one RCA input - But adds wireless multi room!!!

Most other Amps I have looked at are 30cm+ deep....

Does anybody know an Amp that fits the bill???

Thanks

Tom

OK a bit of left field situation but what about some active speakers with multi-preamp inputs. something like the AVI range, either the ADM9 or 9.1, or the Neutron 5 2.1 system. These will do away with the requirement of having a sperate amplifier all together. ADM9's are available secondhand though the 9.1 and Neutron 5 2.1's are relatively new products. All these options mean extending the budget (s/h ADM9's around £650-£700, the Neutron system around 1250), but would offer you a significant sound quality upgrade. With these you should look at getting the digital signal out of the skybox, rather than Analogue RCA, as the AVI DACs will be higher quality than the internals of the skybox. All these systems come with their own remote to select levels and input channels.

Two suggestions from in the house:

NAD 7120 receiver (not DAB, but you can get that on the freeview, 25 cm deep

Teac A300 mini system seperates 26cm deep, I think a DAD seperate is available.

All 2nd hand of course.

I think Creek used to do fairly narrow systems?

The Marantz CR502DAB should fit. It will run a second set of speakers independntly as well.

DavidY - Thanks for the info - I think the're are a bit too far out of my price range - seem to be 1k plus

koenig999 - Thanks for the info - NAD 7120 & Teac A300 - I cant seem to find them anywhere for sale - Any ideas???

The Creek 4040 or 4140 seems to tick all the boxes - but again where do I buy it from?

WZC1 - Marantz CR502DAB - Looks nice but its 302mm - bit too big

The Rega Brio 3 may work... no remote though.....

Can I use Phono/CD/Tuner/Line/Tape inputs as Sky/Xbox and PC inputs?

Are aiwa sx 810 speakers any good (80watts and 6 ohms)?

Thanks

I had one of those as part of my first Hi-Fi, bought in '86 from Comet!

I would suggest getting one of the Creek amps though. It will be noticeably better than the Marantz, and you can get them for not much on ebay.
Thinking about a Creek 4140 s2, or a Rega Brio to go with my Creek tuner.

Sorry about resurrecting such an old thread.............

Just as an FYI - I've got a NAD amp sat on my desk right now which looks to be quite shallow, certainly less than the 'usual' hifi size. my DVD player, TV box, CD player etc are all a fair chunk deeper.

Take a look at some NAD catalogues and get the dimensions it might be a company design trait.
