Stupid question time.

I have a Naim Pre and Power amp that I use for 2ch(via Sonos ZP90). Can I run the pre-out from my Denon AV 4308 into the RCA input for say, "CD", on my Naim Pre-amp? Thus giving me the better DACs from the Denon 4308 (rather than the Sonos DACS)?

Yes, I use the pre outs on my 2808 into a separate Arcam power amp, for slightly different reasons to your question. Will you have speakers connected to the Denon and the Naim though? If so you will get sound out of both which might not be ideal (the volume will vary according to the Denon's amp setting BTW).

What I want to acheive is use the Denon av amp for source select/DACS, pre and power amplification by the Naim, but played through speakers attached to the Denon AV amp.

Does the Denon have a tape out? That will be better matched to the line in of the Naim, otherwise the Denon volume circuits are in there too.

I have my Sony AV amp into my Naim, and my Naim into my Sony AV, to bridge across from music to TV.

Attach the left-right seakers on the Naim, use the pre-amp out from the 4308 to the CD input on the Naim, set the volume control on the Naim to 12 o'clock, re calibrate the 4308 to use this. If you Naim pre has a unity gain input use this rather than the CD.

The volume control will then be the 4308 and you leave the Naim pre volume control alone. Don't be tempted to gat a cable made to use the Naim Power Amp only, Naim pre-amps have a bandwidth limited output as their power amps in some conditions go into instability, equally you 'should' use Naim NAC A5 as the speaker cable, as some cable types (eg high capacitance Ltz type cables can also make the power amp unstable).

I used to use a Naim Pre-Power this way with a Yamaha receiver.

Alternatively sell the Naim Pre/Power and the Denon and buy a more upmarket affair!!

Or do be tempted.....

I have used a Naim 250 power amp with a mixing desk, for many years, and not once has it caought fire, exploded or had any other mishaps.

I have also used a Samson power amp witht a Naim 72 pre-amp, again no-one died.

I got it sorted.

Sonos -> Denon 4308 -> Denon DAC -> Denon Pre-out zone 2{configure zone 2 to play "source" and set volume control to "off"} -> Naim Power Amp -> Speakers.

Decided against it though, and have bought a Naim power regulator and going to demo some more speakers tomorrow. I think it'll move from the spare room to the master bedroom, though (now the misses is used to the stack of black boxes, no different to shoe boxes, right???????).

You should be able to do this. Connect the Sonos to a digital input on the Denon. Set that input to two channel stereo mode. Connect the FL and FR pre-outs to the Naim Pre-amp to a normal line-level input. Connect the front speakers to the Naim power amp. Then whenever you have the Denon and Naim set to the appropriate inputs yo uwill get the Sonos playing through the Denon DACs into the Naim pre-power to your stereo speakers.

Zod, I have it sorted, the Denon has setting specifically for this i.e. use Zone 2 and set to Source. All academic as I decided to keep the Naim system in the bedroom and bought the Roksan's.

Point of note, when I got the speakers this afternoon, I hooked them up and played some tunes. Oh dear..... Sounded like st. I was then told they need running in and will settle down. So played a special running in disc and 8hrs later things are as expected. I didn't think running in would make this much difference but obviously glad it does!
