G/f's mum just bought the above. Firstly is this a good choice? Mainly used for TV through Sky, and the odd DVD

It could just be me but I was expected a better picture, they have it connected to a SKY+ box and we are watching Alien v Preditor and the picture is less than sharp, and the sky+ pause icon is very jaggy, rather than smooth as it is on my (CRT) tv.

It has a whole host of options, including Viera which I nothing of.

Any tips on how to set this up correctlty? They seem to think they should run it on cinema mode with warm colours for 200 hours, is the right? Didnt realise you had to run a tv in these days.

Lastly, when the screen size is on auto, it adds a bar to the opt and bottom, is this right? Can anyone give me a laymans guide to aspect ratios? Cany see point in buying bug tv only for half of it not to be used.

TIA

Make sure you are connected using a half decent scart lead and not tuned into channel 6.
Firstly on the sky services menu goto the picture option and make sure your output is set to RGB and not pal and the aspect is set to 16:9.

On your TV keep pressing the aspect buton until you see 16:9 displayed on the screen, this will give you a widescreen picture when there is one broadcast and a stretched picture when a square picture is broadcast.

If you want to keep the 4:3 ratio correct (and have black bars either side of the pic) then goto a 4:3 channel such as UK Gold then on your TV remote press the aspect button until you see 4:3 displayed on the screen. This will then give you a 4:3 pic when broadcast and 16:9 when broadcast.

For the TV picture settings then use one of the darker pictures for a week or so and you will be fine, if you wanna set up your brightness/contrast/sharpness properly then look here http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AQwyoj0hghSKZGZu...
