Yes, it is a version of that from a different manufacturer.

If you want 10 channels, then you would be best to built a little MATV headend, which would use 10 basic Freeview tuners but rather than cascading them together you would wire them into tight channel filters and combiners to be able to maintain picture quality.

Happy to help out directly if they want me to, I used to design cable tv systems, Budapest is one of mine!

VEX, Thanks for that, and CJS's earlier comment about getting STBs with a channel display on made me realise that if someone approaches the stack of boxes and presses a remote then they'll all change channel!

I think supporting such a setup could be a bit of a nightmare and the hotel owners are coming round to the idea that biting the bullet and getting new TVs is the right thing to do. They're a now bit worried now that older guests will struggle with the complex remote controls that TVs have these days!

Funny, since this topic came up i was sent to a hotel who rents sets from us but dont want the cost of upgrading over 40 TV's or the hasstle of having freeview boxes stolen every 5 mins, so it looks like ill be cascading 5 freeview boxes so they will still be able to view the 5 basic channels after the switchover. I think ill take the remote controls with me though wink. I had another thought also, if power is cut when the boxes come back on i bet they all default to channel 1

If your in the trade there are several of our distributors who can supply specific Hotel Only tv's which have reduced functionality and possibly less buttons on the remote.

As for cascading 5 freeview boxes, you should be ok but I would want to filter an area of frequency to place them in other wise you might have interference problems. Also any more channels could cause problems with channel loading on the network and interference from the poor quality modulators, which is why it is better to use pro-modulators to keep the signal as clean as possible.

I understand what you are saying, in this case im gunna have to suck it and see as the guy just wont pay anything to move to digital so that was the very cheapest option we came up with.

and added functions for stuff like guest welcome screens and the ability for reception to turn the volume down if required. Might be worth contacting a hotel TV company who will install all the kit for free in exchange for a large share of the grumble / pay per view revenue.
