Hello one and all

My panasonic 42G10 arrived from Mr Der on Saturday morning, over the moon with it (watched GP and Blu-ray on it last night!), well chuffed.

Anyhow, on investigation it has an ethernet connection on the back of it, but I can't work out what I can do with it? Sounds an odd thing to say - I don't think the 42G10 has the DLNA stuff like the superior models - so what use is the ethernet connection? The TV will be very close to my network hub for the house so to connect it up will be a piece of cake, if there's any value in it?!

Thanks all biggrin

As above.....got my 50" G10 last week and havent bothered hooking it up even though the router is under the TV. TV is fine so not fussed about firmware unless someone can tell me it adds something significant.

I, quite genuinely, have! With the GP on last night I sat down with big new manual in hand excited to learn about all the posibilities.

And while I could find loads of stuff about the VIERA button and the Q_Link feature (which basically connects other panasonic devices like DVD players easily) I couldn't find anything that simply said "with the ethernet you can XYZ".

So it's likely just the firmware upgrade, then? While not exactly exciting, I'll still plumb it in then as it's so close.

Perhaps it's something to do with the Freesat tuner it has?

Tony, just asked the bloke from Middle Earth and we're pretty sure it's like the blanked off eleccy rear window buttons in a Ford Granada Ghia (non-X model -) redundant.

Regards from the South, and a grunt of respect in the general direction of the afore mentioned tea leaf.

I am in the midst of the trying to decide which tv to buy...its a bloody nightmare.

Anyway i have read alot about the g series and a i believe the ethernet on the g10 is for firmware upgrades and freesat extras that may be coming along in the future (not that i know what these are!) The ethernet port on the V10 & G15 is for internet services via viera cast.

May i ask whether you have a plasma or LCD? If its the LCD have you any comments on the 'average blacks' which seem to give this tv a lower score than some of its rivals when reviewed?

Also what tv have you upgraded from?

Urmmm, thanks everyone - glad that's cleared it up hehe

The 42G10 is a plasma, and came highly recommended from many on here - I've not really upgraded from anything significant so it's more of an outright buy, but I'm over the moon with it so far (admittedly, only played with it for couple of hours though).

I believe it was your goodself that recommended those in the "Blu-Rays to show off how great your new tele is" - they are on the list as we speak (my birthday in 2 weeks - superb timing!)

Yes, that did sound a bit like the word jojoba; something I believe is a goo into which wimmin swaddle themselves.
