Yes, that did sound a bit like the word jojoba; something I believe is a goo into which wimmin swaddle themselves.
At least you avoided falling into the "plumpification" trap. More an audiophile term though I fear. "Listen how amp x manages reveal once hidden bass tones through the majesty of its proprietary plumpification circuitry"

That's a word which sounded like it found utility about the crevices and quadrangles during Tom Brown's Schooldays.

Just had a quick peek at the manual online and to quote Panasonic

"To use network services for Freesat"

So the mention of BBC iPlayer are probably correct.

Sorry to jump on this thread, but, I've been looking at the 42G10 for some time now and read some cracking reviews. Certainly seems highly recommended!!!

One thing that worries me is the (perceived) poor quality SD pictures available. When considering a lot of stuff is still broadcast in SD (eg F1 etc). Is this so or is it down to set up?

Anyone care to comment please - this is driving me mad.

Couldn't stand it if the SD pics were worse than my current Tosh' 28" CRT (which is well over due for replacement and will now end up in the garage/ workshop!!)!!!

Many thanks

Sean

This is where viewing distance becomes critical: the make up of individual, SD digital signals is so variable that something like a motorsport event when viewed from too close a proximity might appear 'grotty' whatever the calibre of set (processing) at hand.

You can genuinley take a couple of steps back in certain scenarios and digitised gremlins often appear to vanish.

Otoh, we live in hope that one side effect of this 'digital switchover' will be a general ramping up of bit rates and loosening of compressions in such a way that these phenomena are reduced.

Clearly, some form of HD reception to cover such events is the ideal panacea.

Thanks Derestrictor,

I am sitting at a distance of 9-10ft away from the screen.

In the future, is it likely all viewing will be available in HD or just a few programmes like now?

Is the poor quality picture due to it being Full HD as oppose to HD Ready?

Can it be improved by messing with settings etc?

Am I better going the Full HD route for future viewings?

Sorry for all the questions.

You should, of course, listen to Derestrictor 1000 times more intently than to me - I come at this as something of an A/V newbie. I've certainly not looked at the SD performance of the 42G10 (plumbed in through HDMI of V+ box) and thought "that's terrible", however I didn't think it looked particularly good either.

First thing I did was play a blu-ray through my 42G10 and then I really did think "WOW" - that made it very much worth it!

So, from a lamen's point of view, it doesn't look great but it doesn't look terrible - it's such a different experience from a 28" CRT though that I don't think you'll EVER think it was the wrong decision thumbup

MY 50G10 has great SD images viewed from 10ft. While we watch a lot of BR, sky HD and games console stuff most TV is SD and it is fine/very good. So much so that we watch House off a bitorrent streamed through the PS3 rather than waiting 2 weeks for it to get to Sky HD.....for a non-movie where image isnt everything is fine.
