HDMI no Xbox 360 display on Panasonic LED

Hiya,

As some of you may have seen I was questioning getting a new TV, well I got a Panasonic TX-L32D26B last weekend. The TV seems fine, although we dont have freeview HD in our area yet and quite a lot of the functions it says arent available.

My main issue is that my xbox doesnt work via HDMI, I used it on my parents Samsung HDTV over xmas just by plugging in the HDMI cable. This doesnt work, I went via the xbox display settings and it just has a blank screen. If the HDMI is plugged in and I switch the xbox on the TV changes to the correct HDMI channel shows auto but doesnt display anything. The xbox produces sound via the red and white audio cables but no picture via HDMI.
It does display 1080i via the HDTV AV cable but not 1080p via HDMI.

My blueray player displays in 1080p via HDMI and the Xbox displays sound and picture via the AV cable in 1080i mode.

Any ideas?

I've got the latest updates on the xbox and on the TV, I've tried different HDMI cables (even bought the Microsoft Xbox one)

Its driving me crazy!!

If you go to set up in the screen, and then display, then input labels, you'll see a list of all the available inputs. You need to make sure that 'skip' isnt shown against the input you're using. Just flick to the right and you'll see other labels you can use.

All the Skip function does is remove that input from the list when you press the AV button, if the xbox is switching to HDMI automatically then it is sidestepping this. I would suggest starting from scratch, plug in your AV lead then in the Xbox menu set it up for a basic TV (lowest res) just to get it working. Do you have the component cable too? (RGBRW)if so then its worth using this, dont forget to flick the switch to HDTV if using the component lead.
If your stuck with HDMI then see if you get a pic on the lowes res then try other HDMI inputs then when you finally get a pic then up the Res to match the screen.
Sounds to me like another case of HDMI being a 'wonderfull new twchnology' after all into only 1's and 0's, I mean what can go wrong

Thanks for the reply's, unfortunatly with the xbox you cant connect both HDMI and AV at the same time, they have made the AV case so big it covers the HDMI connector. I'll see what I can do though...;)

I can get a picture running 1080i on the Component (RGBRW) cables, but cant get anything on the HDMI, not even low res.

Called Panasonic and Comet help lines and neither can resolve the issue.

I did manage to get the HDMI and AV in the xbox at the same time, turns out its just casing on the connector but it didnt change anything.

Just use component and ditch the HDMI you will have no issues there. HDMI is a PITA
Edit to add, you should be able to get 1080p via component, ive set loads of Xbox's up like that. Its also worth checking all of the video options in the xbox menu to make sure nothing weird has been switched on.

Yeah looks like I'll have to stick to component.
It wont let me run 1080p on the component cable, I think it only works with HDMI.
I've gone through the xbox settings and held Y with the right trigger to reset, also reset the default of the TV and tried getting them to 'handshake'.

Strange but with the advance of technology it seems more difficult to resolve issues. When I was a kid if there wasnt a picture on the screen you'd change the cable as the old one would have broken,or even wrap some tape around it to hold it in position!! Maybe even manually tune it in. I asked Panasonic about switching off the Auto detect for resolution etc but apparently you cant.

Do a search on 1080p from component, i know it can be done because i have done it, it maybe a firmware update but it possible the xbox uses different chipsets where one does it and one dosent. As for the HDMI problem, thats a bit of a bummer, its worth double checking that the xbox hdmi works on another tv and the inputs on your TV work with other HDMI devices.
