We've got BT normal landline, which the orange broadband comes through, and I've been thinking that one of these BT package deals might be a good alternative, would certainly seem to be cheaper.

We don't have anything beyond the normal freeview at the moment, we like watching films but are content to wait the couple of years it takes before the latest thing is being broadcast for free on terrestial. We could do with a new DVR ( the Sony has lasted well but is inclined to 'forget' half a dozen films from time to time).

The best broadband speed we can get is about 2.5megs, we are some distance from our exchange, and the info on the BT website is limited. Would adding the BT Vision be a good idea in our case?

Thanks for any info offered

its a great system and worth getting, but I think the minimum line speed is 3meg (2 meg is reserved for the bt vision)

great system. My internet speed isn't brilliant (2 to 3 whatever they ares), but it works brilliantly: never had any problem with the on-demand films or the recording at all.

I love my BT Vision box.

I've had it about 18 months and it is very easy to use and the picture quality is faultless. Grips - if you have a lot stored on it, it will delete the oldest first without asking, it does give a flag on the list but that is right at the very bottom so easy to miss. If you use it to record radio you can only play that recording in one go and not pause or pick up at a later date. And that's about it!

I don't have any of the packages or do on-demand as I have a woeful 1.4Meg connection at the very best. All I needed was a freeview recorder so I bought the box from BT for £60 and some connection fee and that is all I have ever spent. Brilliant!

The box itself is a perfectly decent PVR. My issue was that the actual broadband product was so truly dreadful and overpriced I couldn't wait to leave.

I' ve just terminated my BT landline and broadband..... and gone back to virgin for a what I think aint a bad deal..... their xl tv package (which includes catch up tv etc + HD), broadband 10 doubyw watts (enough for me but you can up grade to 20 or 50 if you want), and some phone package all for £46 (£35 + £11 line rental/ month) ...... about a fiver more then I was paying BT for braodband and land line.

As an add on which I have not taken yet you can have all the film channels + sports for £27/month or £20 for one of them.

I think this offer finishes at the end of June, but I 'm sure another one will be along soon.

Orange has sold out to BT so the services will be pretty similar and Orange will get TV service soon. Renegociate with Orange as you may find it can be cheaper. I ended up with Mobile/Broadband/home phone deal , BT could not get close on price.

I'd love to do this, unfortunately there is a prerequisite of living in a cabled area, which we dont..

Same for me! We barely get broadband in my village let alone any cable stuff. The downside of the BT box is you have to have BT broadband even if you don't use their on-demand services - I'm not aware that anyone has cracked that on the boxes yet.... I don't mind having BT for everything as anyother supplier is still strangled by the crappy bit of copper hanging off my gutter.
