I'm looking to purchase some earphones for listening to my iPod at work. I'm thinking of spending about £100, though I'll happily stretch the budget a bit if there's a significant jump in sound quality a small way North of that price. The research I've conducted thus far has suggested that the Shure SE310s (which can be bought online for about £110) have far superior sound quality to competitors' products at a similar price, though reviews also say that they have a habit of failing because of a design shortcoming in the wiring. Can anyone give me any pointers as to where my cash should be going?

If it's in ear ones you are looking for I have the Bose one's and while I am no music connoisseur - ipod type music I hear rather than listen to - I think they do a great job.

Search is your friend - Finlandia has a thread with reviews of numerous in ear phones which will tell you what you need to know - I bought Audio Technica CK 10s as a result for about this price point, moving away from Shure E4s.

Another vote for Audio Technica, and the CK7's are well under £100.

Superb quality and sound but take quite a few hours to run-in!

I've got a pair of Shure's that are getting on for 5 years old now (though not on the original foam covers! smile) but still sounding so good that the idea of changing them hasn't crossed my mind.

I wouldn't do my bks on super expensive earphones for an MP3 player as the sound quaility from them doesn't warrant amazing earphones. I got some Bose in-ear headphones as a gift a few years back and they're just fine.
