HD Recording to DVD?

Hi all,

Well ok, prob daft question, but is it possible to record HD quality TV to regular DVD? (and be able to play back at HD quality) I need to replace my current DVD/HDD recorder but am wondering if it's worth waiting for more HD recorders to come and for the price to drop somewhat.

At the moment I can't take my HD film from the camcorder to a DVD due to the AVCHD format not working with the DVD player...

Any Ideas?

I dont thinks its really possible unles you rencode which drops it below hd. I play avchd camcorder movies on my ps3 works perfectly.
