I am not totally happy with my lounge tv set up.
I am contemplating hanging my tv above a storage heater, which is covered, has no heat vents on top, but there will inevitably be some heat loss out of the top.. but will it damage the tv?

Really would not recommend this. Inevitably the heat will find it's way up as it convects around the room.

It is recommended not to mount the TV abouve a heat source but thats about as much detail as you get, the main thing is not to mount the TV in a position where it is in the direct heat stream. The TV is designed to work within a particular temp range and if this is exceeded then its likely it will fail early.

Here's a pic...

Problem I have is, I am limited to where I can put the tv due to Sky input point into the room etc.

The reason I want to move the tv is, I cannot currently sit square in front of the tv and or set up surround sound.

Why not build something that would look like a shelf that is also "floating" just below the TV and have it stick out just a few more inches further then the TV. Build it from two thin peices of wood and then some sort of material which will not conduct heat very well.

Sort of like a heat shield but you could put some ornaments on it below the TV or just leave it plain and paint it the same colour as the wall and no one needs to know that it is to protect the TV from the heat...could actually look pretty cool if done right.
