Anyone have any experience with these?

I'd rather not have to have speakers in each corner of the room, so figured this might be a nice replacement for the basic Sony stereo we're using currently.

I use a Yamaha YSPsomething - not surround, but surprisingly good, worth a listen.

The Polk Audio one is very good, I have used it on installs a number of times and always impressed with the results.

Still need an amp and sub with it so it is not cheap.

Yamaha YSP900 is the one, supposed to give excellent results but you need to be in its "sweet spot".

I've got a smaller YSP thing and cant get it to create any surround sound effect at all. It is in the corner of a slightly odd shaped room however.

Me too. YSP 600. Best it can manage is a sort of wide stereo effect with maybe a hint of surroundishness on occasions. There isnt much bass either so I got the recommended Yamaha sub as well.

What Hifi gave it 5 stars so I guess it must be a good example of its type. Overall its much more enjoyable than the TV sound only but not a patch on the cheapest 5.1 system IMHO.

If budget allows, try the Bower & Wilkins Panorama Soundbar. My experience is that none of the sounbars will give a full surround experience however the B&W is the one that seems to come closest. It also has a crystal clear sound with a nice punchy bass.
