Put my new Sat dish up,pointed it 28.2 degrees to the east of south,i switched on my Grundig Freesat box and the signal strength is 85% which i think is quite good,go onto the next step of the setup procedure and the box is meant to search for the Network and the Transport ID but it never finds them?Even if i skip this step putting the postcode etc in it doesn't find channels after this?Anyone any ideas?

Sounds like it isnt aligned correctly, bear in mind that the satellite is fixed so if you live in london for example then the dish actually points in a different direction to if you live in cornwall.

I've got it pointed at 28.2 east of south which is correct for my area.I've moved the dish cm by cm and can't pick another satellite up.

without any information as to how you aligned the dish those are symptoms of the wrong satellite....

....but it could be a knackered box too.

Had very similar situation when installing mine. The thing which did it for me was moving the lnb. Just a few cm's and all channels available.

I had 90% signal strength but if lnb isn't set right you will not pick up the channels.

When I did my Humax Freesat install I had the exact same symptoms as you OP.

Dish was pointed at the wrong sat. When I found the right one strength went up to 95% and quality is around 85% most days.

Are you using a sat finder of just trial and error like I did?

Unrelated and sorry to distract attention from the OP.

But I have been wondering..... I have a sky dish which currently receives for my Sky+. I have been wondering for a while if i can use the same dish to receive freesat in my upstairs bedroom. Does anyone know if this would be possible and if so easy enough to set up?

Yes, I pretty sure they use the same sat. In simplest terms put a quad LNB on it (if it doesn't already have one) and run another cable (two for freesat+) to the bedroom, plug in a freesat(+) box and away you go.

Thanks mate.

I will have a close look at my dish when I get home and see if it has the Quad LNB on it but i remember the guy telling me something about this when he installed the dish so hopefully it's there.

Did a quick google. 100% now that it's the same sat for sky and Freesat. Good luck.

Not 100% true im told, apparently there is a slight re alignment needed to a sky dish if its going to be used for freesat, it generaly does work in my experiance BUT we have had a few Pana G10's in for repair with poor Freesat reception on certain channels and EPG not working correctly, Panna tell us that freesat uses a different carrier than sky for the EPG info (that comes from a different sattelite). From what I can make out sky is 28.2E and freesat is 28.5E BUT this could be panna trying to pass the fault off or it could be true wink
Does anyone have EPG problems on freesat?

sky dishes are not that accurate, and unless theyre very badly aligned to begin with (which would present its own problems) it wouldnt be an issue

As far as I am aware they both use the same 28.2 position. I beleive freesat uses the Astra satelite at 28.2.

Yeh sounds like they were blowing hot air, freesat and Sky use the same group so if the dish is aligned correctly either should work fine from the same dish, if the dish is out slightly then its possible for sky to work fine and freesat to have epg problems or if its out the other way then vice versa wink
