Thanks PJ S, that is very helpful.
I'm not really bothered about getting my telly on-line (that's what my PC is for ). The only other real difference I can see is:
Contrast Ratio (in dark surroundings) 2,000,000:1 Native Infinite Black (5,000,000:1 Native)
What is the difference between these two figures in real life viewing?
"Mainly watch Drama and Films" - G20, with provision to stick with THX mode, or call in an ISF Accredited Calibrator to set up the TV for daytime and evening light level viewing.I'm not really bothered about getting my telly on-line (that's what my PC is for ). Spend the extra once, and enjoy it for the next umpteen years - the difference over that timescale is pretty much insignificant.

I've spent the whole afternoon looking at TVs in the usual electrical shops and come away even more undecided than before. I've driven the missus mad as I adjusted every menu on all the TVs I was looking at. Still wasn't initially convinced that the Panasonic was £500 better than the LG, but viewing the actual TV, it is noticably better (as best you can in a major store). I can't really justify the G20B, but the S20B seems a decent compromise (I could get it for the same price as an LG 590).
The lack of Freesat in the S20 doesn't bother me, but I have concerns about the lack of THX and the contrast ratio. (Which the LG has).
Then you see the LED Tvs. Which (in store) look so much better. I might actually be able to make a decision one day.

Looked amazing to me and very filmic
Shame about the reflective screen
Also saw an S20 ... looked great. Why bother paying all that extra for a G or V20 ? After about 2 dvd's and a few days of Sky you'd never notice the difference IMO (if there is one).
I can understand it with good Hifi because a musical system that is compelling and engaging makes you want to put cd after cd on (or Vinyl if thats your chosen weapon) and it greatly enhances your enjoyment of music. BUt a black level that's a wee bit better than the next ... pah, who gives a stuff !
I've got a Panasonic 42S11B which i've had for about 6 months.
No doubt plotless will say I bought the wrong plasma, but I watch tele without a critical eye and I dont need freesat, and it looks brilliant to me!
Having done a small amount of research, The only comment I have is to keep looking for the right Panasonic plasma as they are very, very good.

How much is the 5 year warranty really worth?
46 inch S20 costs £999 in John Lewis with 5 yr warranty and £750 in Currys presumably with only 1 year warranty.
If they are in stock at Currys (and are 'local'), then John Lewis will pricematch, just speak to a salesperson in the shop to find out what to do. I bought a 32" TV a few years back from JL and they matched the price via a phone call, I think it took a day to arrange, but might be worth it for that saving and the warranty.46 inch S20 costs £999 in John Lewis with 5 yr warranty and £750 in Currys presumably with only 1 year warranty.

Terrrible attitude by JL (Kingston branch) so I never went back there for anything again.
Looking for some advice before I place an order. Richer Sounds have the TXP46G20 for £699 or £760 with the 5 year warranty. I went into the store and it is indeed a very impressive machine - and a very attractive price aswell considering the launch rrp. Does everyone think this is too good to pass up? I can't help but want to go to a 50 inch however I don't want to go much above this budget(*) and don't want to be going bigger but ending up with a lesser quality screen.
I will mainly be using it for xbox and films, most of which would be scifi so the black levels of the g20 really impress. The majority of our tv viewing is downloaded HD shows from the HTPC, however the SD picture was still impressive on the unit I viewed.
(*) - I cannot be trusted to go to the shops by myself, I went on Sat and reserved the Philips 21:9 monster at £999 after being wowed by it in the store. After calming down when I got home I looked into it and there seemed to be quite alot of issues with the screen and it also seemed a little silly getting such an impressive set when it cuts the top and bottom off the picture when using it in 21:9, so I'm not going for it now.

If you must have something now, then that's a very good price.
On the other hand, as you were prepared tp spend £1K, I'd be holding off for a few months (if that's possible) with a view to be getting a G30 version as it becomes more competitively priced.
Suggested list seems to be close to €1500 mark, so it may be a while before it comes down to the grand level.
The reason for waiting, is it employs the faster phosphor cells that were introduced in last year's VT20.

Apparently the G30 doesnt come with 3D glasses either. Does anyone know how much these will be?
G30 isn't 3D, you're thinking of the VT20, and then the GT20 released as the entry level 3D TV.
One presumes there's going to be a GT30, but just like the 20, they're two different models.
The link was talking about the G, not the GT - and prices shown are educated estimates or figures quoted by someone with knowledge of Panny Europe's strategy, in Euros.
