I’m just about to push the button on buying at RS5 NAS box thanks to recommendations on this forum.

The question is what software would you recommend to load onto it to manage the music / DVDs?

I have a Sonos that I will point at it for the music but would like an easy interface for the DVD’s.

Ideally something that you could link easily into a decent remote control?

Any ideas?

Thanks

With multiple built in media servers to support most digital players, setup and use is very simple.
That is a seriously overpriced bit of kit so it should do everything out of the box!
Remote control will be via whatever you are using as a player.

Gosh what a price. Erm, well it claims it'll work with anything, so why do you need any more software?

Don't buy that! Insanely overpriced!
"quiet long life fluid dynamic bearing fan"

That's an amazing line of jargon.
There's no more than £500 of hardware there.

The encoding off the drive is definitely ace and handy solution to ripping on a computer, and array expansion also a boon.

Above and beyond that? Or was that aimed at the OP?

How much?! To put that into perspective, this guy built a 40tb NAS for around £2k

I was thinking that as well. Too polite to say!

Could it be that the OP is looking for a HTPC rather than a media server?

Sounds possible, but we do need him to say what he wants/needs.

Ummm...seems like I've been a bit silly. Well not yet as I haven't ordered it.

I just want something that is easy to rip music in lossless format and DVD's / Blu Rays.

Music will be played via Sonos, DVD's via ???? hence the question about software. I assumed that I would need to buy some interface software to remotely control / browse the DVD's via a TV or Pronto remote etc

Sorry, I know I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff, just need some guidance.

Jase - PM Plotloss, tell him your list of requirements and listen VERY carefully to what he says. Then he'll give you a shopping list. Go buy the contents of that shopping list and live a happy bunny.
