BBC iPlayer, 4OD et al in the living room
Discussion
OK, what is the collective wisdom on getting On Demand services to the living room.
Personally, I use Boxee on my mac but it isn't exactly parent proof and this is for the folks.
I was thinking about the Boxee Box, but its not quite ready for prime time; equally a PS3 will be dismissed as a 'console'.
The leading choice is therefore one the current gen Sony Blu Ray players which support iPlayer and LoveFilm with the other services to come. I was tempted to get the new Humax HDR box (they already have a SD Humax) but iPlayer isn't live yet .
Is there another option that I'm missing? Do the Popcorn Hour or Roku fit the bill?
Forgot to say that Cable & Sky aren't viable option; if they were, then the new Tivo powered Virgin box would be on its way.

Apparantly ps3 will have a itv player and 4od aswell as the existing bbc iplayer soon.
The PS3 has this functionality *now* thanks to an auto update a couple of days ago.Martin Keene said:
I was aware the latest Sony Blu Ray players supported iPlayer and Lovefilm, does anybody know if this extends to, or is planned to extend to 4OD, itv, etc?
I would assume that it's Sony-wide as part of "Sony TV" - so if it works on the PS3 it should work on all Sony products. It's only a connection to a web service after all - hardware should just need an update.TEKNOPUG said:

Link to the Beta firmware page incase it's useful (this is where it will appear, currently still showing the last October update):

My point is though that they did, eventually.
Fair enough, but with Sony I'd never bank on it. In fact I've broken my own rule on this by buying the Humax before they've done the update for the portal, but TBH I'm not that fussed if it doesn't work as I've got the Sony TV with it anyway (albeit in another room).Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
