Any ideas? From the red light, either press the remote or the button on the unit to switch it on....the light turns amber/orange and not green. Can hear the hard drive start spinning up, then stops again. Tried unplugging from the mains for a while, and still the same.

- other than calling Sky in a few minutes, does anyone know if this is a simple problem with a simple fix, or is it new box time (less than a year old)

Thanks :-)

Search for reset instructions, mine wouldn't power up so I found them online and it worked.

Smiler.

Sometimes mine can take up to 20 mins to fire up.

Try unplugging the power lead, re-plugging & waiting for a bit.

Or have you already done this with no luck?

It was unplugged for 3 hours last night. Then no change when plugging in again. No change this morning. Still doing nothing. Don't want the frustration of losing my recordings, but may have to try the reset options to try and get it to switch on...then it's call a Sky engineer. :-(

Can take ages to come back on sometimes. Leave it and go wash the car.

Weird. The light went to green and it was on. No particular reason. No consistency, no rhyme or reason.
Thanks for the tips for the future...this will no doubt happen again.

I had a similar fault. Took the unit apart and was greeted by a slight burning smell and a few bulging caps on the PSU. Ordered a new set online and fixed it myself for a few quid smile

Could try a software update by holding down back up on the STB and then disconnecting and reconnecting the mains whilst keeping back up depressed. Once the box has restarted let go of back up and the 3 lights on the STB should light up along with a message on screen.

Boxes which are stuck on standby have generally blown their psu, very common fault.
