Minimum 50" definitely. That's the recommended size for that distance and what we have. Was watching a film last night and the wife agreed we could have got a bigger size.

we sit 4.5m from ours and have just upgraded to a 42" panasonic.

For tv it is perfect and does not domiante the room, however I wish it was a little bigger for playing black ops biggrin

It honestly depends if you're watching more TV or more movies. If you'll be using it mostly for movies then absolutely, go as big as you can afford. But if you're watching TV bare in mind what I said earlier.

The bigger the better. I am about 12 feet from a 100 inch screen and that's about perfect for games and films. They are all high def though. For tv i use a 47, but will probably get a 55 next time. Don't compromise with a small one.

Which 55 would you recommend?

Looking for one myself.

I might be a techy geek, but i really hate massive TVs in small rooms. 37inch would be fine, and i would be very tempted to get the 32inch.

I couldn't agree more. I'm renting a house and the guy had a black 50 inch TV in the corner of a room that size and I thought it looked ridiculous. I got him to take it away and I stuck in a 32 inch one and it looks about right.

The house I am moving into has a larger living room - 6 or 7 metres long and 5.5m wide IIRC. If the TV had been at the end of the room I'd have had a 50 but as it's now going where the chimney breast was I'm getting a 46 or 47.

Have you got a picture of this you could post up...I'm thinking of bigger myself.

I'm assuming its a conventional flat screen TV and not a projector.

Err...not unless it's the Panny 103" Plasma!
The clue's in the rest of the post - 47 (46?) & 55 being common TV sizes, and the 100 is stated as a screen.

Yeah I'm sure Swiftpete has a projector. Though his screen is a little small as I watch from 11' and it's 112" wide (121" diagonal 22:9). smile However I agree agree about the huge TV in the smaller UK rooms as it just looks a bit 'bling'. At least a projector screen disappears into the ceiling when not in use. I use a 40" TV the rest of the time in a decent sized room which looks small enough that SD content is OK, but if it was my only display I wouldn't want one overpowering the room.
