As im currently doing up the house i bought i figured i would post what i have done so far on my home theatre, its nowt flash but I like it so far

Luckily i have a better half who like me loves her music and thinks a speaker sound look like a speaker so the thumbs up for big floorstanders were given biggrin

Kit list
Onkyo 608AV amp
Tannoy Mercury F3 fronts
Tannoy Mercury F3custom rears
Tannoy mercury F3custom Centre
Tannoy sub
LG TV
Virgin high def box
Dell gx280 as a media PC

As the TV was being mounted to the wall my dad dug the plaster off the wall so I had a channel to run the cabling, i cabled up the vast majority of the sockets on the back even though i will be using the AV amp for video switching duties - i figured its worth doing as i never know if i will need to use the tv sockets)

Once the cabling was run it has been plastered over

Currently waiting for the base plaster to dry so the top coat can go on

The speakers are perhaps not in the best places but as the room is small its the only place for them to go really but they sound pretty damn good where they are

As a side note i did check that the screen and centre are safe from heat and they are but its rare the fire is used anyway

The rack im using to hold the equiptment is just a cheap glass rack but it does the job

The media PC is just an old Dell desktop - the sort that was used in offices up and down the country BUT i shoved Ubuntu on it, downloaded XBMC for ubuntu and got a cheap mediacentre remote, it copes with pretty much anything i throw at it, the only thing its waiting for is the network cabling and my server being installed soi have access to all my media, not just what i can shove in the front of it

Ubuntu Desktop in the front room FTW

The next upgrades are to actually decorate the room (I did the man thing of getting the sound system setup first as it needed carpet up for speaker wire etc) then a bigger TV and perhaps a satellite decoder to pickup signals from Astra 19.2 and Hotbird

Like i said its nothing compared to some of the setups I have seen in here in the past but if people are interested i will put up photos off a decent (not phone) camera when it is done

Love these set ups but don't you get a crick in the neck looking above the mantlepiece. Only saying this as if I ever got a flat screen that would be the only place in my house that I could fit it.

not really, my sofa is one of those big flop into things so you end up leaning back looking up a bit anyway, the pics make it look higher as you dont really have a frame of reference, as a guide to how high it is the floorstanders are 85cm tall

Once it's all finished and up and running have a play with speaker positioning in terms of distances from walls and corners, then toe in.
Can really make a difference, especially with music.

The plan is to get them where i want an use masking tape on the carpet to mark the postion when they are removed for the wallpaper to go up

Did you leave some cable length behind the TV? The connections on a different TV will be in different places.

Looks good

Have you given any thought as to how to keep the cables tidy behind your glass rack? That's the only problem I find with ope shelving, the wiring looks awful

Also, I assume the rack isn't going to stand infron of the wooden cabinet permanently?

the wiring will be a pain, my plan is for the wiring that is not needed it will be tucked out of the way in the cupboard as it feeds out the bottom for now so that will get rid of a lot of mess and the other wiring i will just try to control with cable ties

In regards to infront of the cubpard unfortunatly yes it has to stay where it is positioned, its not too bad as those cupboards just hold the electricity meter and fusebox so its not the end of the works and you can still get into the cabinets
